I'd do everything I could think of to make sure people knew it was a murder house. Then I'd watch the price, hoping it would drop. If that worked, I'd make a low-ball offer.
Never understood the issue some people have with living in a house where someone died in. I'm sitting 4 feet away from where the previous owner of this house died, and the only spooky shit here is the half assed work the guy did to the place when he was still around.
Some people should not be allowed to have a hammer.
The ghost of my DIY shall haunt you forever
Haha, I feel that, I've lived in a few places that had "aspirational DIY" previous owners. I think there is a difference between a house where someone died and one where they were murdered though, for a lot of folks. One is just a natural part of the life cycle, the other is a lot more haunted, you know?
That's the curse. For now you only noticed the flaws. Then they will bother you, and will do it so much that you'll start to think you could do better, and start working and fixing and the cycle will repeat again.
The ceiling in my living room does not connect to the walls. In fact, the walls do not connect to the walls.
They abused the adage of “do your best and caulk the rest”.
And they couldn’t even do that right! They covered the ceiling issues with crown moulding and quarter round for the walls.
Went to demo the fence to save money on a new one, only to find screws of all diameters, lengths, and driver types. Some I swear were alien technology. I wanted to save the materials but I just rented a bobcat and tore it all up.
My garage and basement have 6 different sets of cabinets for storage. The electrical... Ugh, I've mostly got it fixed now, but it still needs updating. They converted a pantry into a bathroom with only fake ventilation. They clogged a vent to a bedroom with towels to save on heating/cooling because it had the door to the attic (still haven't fixed this one yet).
I dread the next DIY bs I stumble across. And I'm sure I'm forgetting some.
So glad my house is frame on slab and the original owner was in jail for csam most of his life. His niece sold it to us after he did the only decent thing. Haven't found a single sketchy diy fix in a year living in it aside from the weird DNS settings for the router which I promptly torched once I could afford. Anybody wanna guess why I had to look all the way to the routers DNS?
I uhhh, no I'm good on any further detail on that side. But I often wanted a frame on slab like the cabins at a state park just down the road. So easy to keep clean. It's a minimalist daydream. Sorry crazy cousin, I can't house you here, I just don't have the room.
Yup, technically one bedroom but that's our gear room, we sleep in the loft. 825sqft, just enough and no more.

lol that sounds pretty bad. It's hard to say which is the worst thing done to this place... maybe the fact that he lowered the roof after a fire from an actual 2 storey house to a 1 1/2 storey, and completely built over the porch (porch roof and all, which is still up there under the rest of the house. The porch doesn't even have a proper foundation and he added a lot of weight to it, so now that corner of my place shifts with the seasons, making my front door jam sometimes, and pop open on it's own other times.
When he died nobody knew for a while after, so at least I did get new flooring out of the deal. Problem is whoever did the flooring wasn't much better at carpentry than he was.. :/

It's funny to even look at in my opinion.. He did the work the absolute laziest way possible. You can still see the old roofline (complete with shingles) of the old porch sticking out of the wall. But the place cost less than the property was worth, so that kind of evens things out lol

ya it's not "old van stuck to the side of the house" bad, but it's still pretty rough, especially if you see it in person. It looks kinda straight in the pic, in real life tho it's pretty far off. I can't get a better pic of it because of the two massive maples and a pine tree that hide a lot of the house.

Fucking garage house. My least favorite architectural style. I hate the garage out front with the unfriendly hidden front door so much. It makes bad neighbors too.
If you are disabled and can't go up steps I understand. But God I hate that look.
As a kid I lived in a neighborhood where all the houses looked different and was built in the 60s, but when I saw all these developments get built (they looked exactly as the OP pic) all I could think was how weird it was that people would live in these cookie cutter houses that all looked the same. Where's the individuality? It must suck to have an HOA too.
I love my unreachable, gated and caged front door.
and here I was thinking it at least had some character, unlike my 1980s rectangular box with a rectangular layout
Hello, this is a gentle reminder that not all ghosts are Victorian wailing ladies in fancy dresses. Ghosts also include some eight year olds saying "six-seven!", girls with "juicy" on the ass of their sweatpants, random salarymen in suits, many perpetually angry indigenous people, in t-shirts and jeans, a crap ton of actual babies, a few karens here and there who finally found out, some goth girls who were secretly glad they died in fancy Victorian dresses so they get to blend in with the genuine articles, a shit ton of peasants from the middle ages, a bunch of brash cowboys overtaken by consumption, and so goddamn many more.
The reason you can't see any of these is much the opposite: the air is so thick with ghosts, so dense with them, that hearing the roar of twenty ghosts per square meter is something you've been used to your whole life, and it sounds like nothing. They're equally powerless too. Just an endless ether of the dead that you too will join, frustrated forever that like fifteen other people have their random ghostly limbs in your body cause there's just no goddamn space.
I prefer to think of them as being tied to a place and time. So space-time. As the earth goes around the sun, and the sun goes around the galactic center, and the galaxy moving, we leave a trail of ghosts lost, floating in space. And if you consider the Galaxy's edges as a "galactic coast" you might even say we're leaving space ghosts, from coast to coast.

I would find it far stranger to buy a place where nothing bad has ever happened. I never got the issue here, do they think the murder will "rub off" on them?
I lived in a former funeral home as a child, its was a neat house and only the raccoons in the walls where creepy.
Off topic, I find it comforting. A box of ashes doesn't amount to a place you have memories in.
Edit: But I will say that fucking AC unit seems specifically to always turn on when I have to take a dump and it's the coldest part of the house.
How the housing market is. I don't care if a family got slaughtered in there if the price is reduced because of it. As long as the house didn't kill them, I don't see an issue.
Now I'm imagining the movie about a serial killer who sets out to kill an entire families to reduce the house prices I the local area, so he can get on the housing ladder.
