My conspiracy theory is that AI companies want into the government not just for the money (which would be huge) but to also protect them when the bubble bursts and they all get bailed out because they are now to big to fail and too integrated into the government.
Of course they are, gotta get their hands on some more of that sweet, sweet taxpayer money.
Large IT companies have worked with the pentagon and military for decades. This shouldn’t be any kind of surprise to anyone.
Meaning we can jail them for killing hundreds of Iranians when the tribunals start, right?

Best you can get is them having to flee to Argentina if the general population finally awakens, but there's a good chance that might never happen. However, it is more likely, that they can form their own network states on the remains of the USA, while watching Russia and China trying to grab as much land as possible from a safe distance.
Sort of like how IBM was a part of the Nuremberg trials? Oh wait they helped translate the trials, they weren’t on trial.
There are many applications of machine learning models for military purposes, some of which you can see with Ukraine drone warfare for instance. Tech like visual recognition predates much of what people call AI now.
However, this is likely referring to LLM usage to predict stuff, which is utterly stupid because it's a language model. It's like those people who think it's sentient because it recites science fiction from its training to pretend to be sentient.
Part of me hopes this is just a grift, since the reality of ChatGPT helping the military pick targets and make strategic decisions is terrifying. Either way we're just so utterly fucked.
When Trump had that Iranian girl's school bombed, they were quick to blame it on an AI hallucination.
Another poster speculated that's the point: they aren't having it make tactical decisions, they're building a scapegoat into the decision to commit war crimes.
Bomb a girl's school at the command of an individual? Folks lower on the chain might disobey, civilians demand accountability... It's messy.

The llms keep getting worse where they first answer with both-sides have merit and give pros and cons, but try to avoid ranking by score, how well each issue helps the majority live healthier lives, quality of life and such. It doesn't want to show how much higher the Democratic platform scores on a comparison of top voter issues. It should impartially do the math, show areas for improvement, see how people in other countries do better with x, y and z issues, and polls show they would never give up the nice things, we all should have too.

The public has roundly rejected AI so the only money left is cashing in on personal friendships with people who don't normally have friends.
Lemmy has, the public has not.

Seriously, this has been happening forever. Hell, when Snowden leaked Bush/Obama's prism program, the response was a collective yawn.
