So long as homeland security exists, it's not safe for anyone from any country to go there.

US tourism groups attempt to win Canadian visitors back

Oh cool, someone's finally gonna go burn down the White House and guillotine the pedos and billionaires and rid the world of evil?

New York state launched a “NY Loves Canada” promotion this summer, offering discounts at hotels, restaurants and attractions. Some downtown Las Vegas hotels are treating the Canadian dollar as equivalent to the U.S. dollar to give Canadian visitors more value for their money. Las Vegas tourism officials went to Canada last month to meet with travel advisers, tour operators and airline representatives.

Oh... oh, that's cool too, I guess.

Never again in my lifetime.

It’s the only safe decision. Who’s to say there’s not a right wing coup and this banana republic becomes hostile overnight? It almost happened once already.

The coup has already happened. They’re just trying to find a way of either invalidating all future elections (emergency powers), or rigging them such that they establish a permanent Republican ascendancy.

If successful, future elections will become purely performative, a thin veneer of legitimacy over an explicitly engineered conclusion. America will cease to be a democracy in everything but name. And as North Korea, China, and East Germany have shown, names can be worthless.

I can see the slogans now: “Visit America! We probably won’t put you in a concentration camp.”

[–] YurkshireLad@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 days ago

“If we let you in, it’s only to lock you up”.

Just as I will never enter the state of Florida ever again, I can imagine many Canadians feeling the same about our entire country.

Can't blame you. Keep making us suffer financially, it's the only thing these fucking freaks understand

This is apparently working as my daughter went to Universal last weekend & I-4 wasn't a Mad Max like asphalt hellscape.

[–] discomatic@lemmy.ca 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As a visible minority, absolutely not.

[–] lobut@lemmy.ca 15 points 2 days ago

Yo they put an old British lady in ICE detention. As visible minorities I think we're rolling a loaded die.

The only good think about Trump is, he took the inevitable collapse of American Hegemony, and collapsed to down from 30 years to 4...

Ripped the band-aid off at super sonic speeds.

There are some Canadians still completely fucking oblivious to what's happening in America

[–] DeadEndLink@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

Tons of them.

They're also oblivious to what has happened to Canada.

[–] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 17 points 2 days ago

No they are not oblivious. There are Canadians who live that MAGA crap and care only if affects them personally. They are under the delusion that Trump's policies cannot negatively affect them, so they don't care.

Happily spending my holiday in Canada again. The US can get bent

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The people of whatever state might be lovely, but the government isn't and they're the ones that control the border and airports.

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As great as it is to give the people the benefit of doubt I think at every opportunity we should push against all in Americans America

No different to what happened to every Russian after 2022.

Shun them online make them feel it personally so that they might do better next time as a collective

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 13 points 2 days ago

I'm more concerned that quite a lot of Americans still don't seem to understand what the problem is. They seem to think that people not wanting to come to the US is because they don't like trump and it's a sort of protest.

They really don't seem to understand that it's because they keep arresting foreign nationals for no reason and throwing them in detention centers. It's a safety issue, not a protest issue, although it might also be a protest issue.

So advertising how nice place x is, isn't going to cut it. Because to get to the nice place x, I have to get past the not nice people who probably want to shoot me and aren't all that concerned about being prosecuted after the fact.

It's a shame - so many beautiful places in the land currently held by the Trump regime. But I'm not visiting the Grand Canyon and so on until I know my money won't go towards taxes funding fascism. And until I know my USA vacation will not turn into a El Salvador vacation.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

Don't just pine for us to come back. Show us you care about humanity and not just money/economy by standing up to your degenerate leader. How do you expect us to line your pockets with that going on?

[–] shittydwarf@piefed.ca 6 points 2 days ago

Never again
