That's the box.

"Handcrafted from solid pine wood, finished with beeswax oil, lined in deep green velvet, and fitted with a faux gator-skin leather carrying strap with gold hardware,” the listing adds, “each box features custom engraved details and is exclusively numbered 1/500, making this an essential piece of art for the hive.”

Fyi. Pine wood is like the cheapest wood that exists.
Secondly. It uses pleather labeled as "faux leather". Aka vinyl.

Engraved with a cnc machine.

Looks glued together.

Wow. If you want a fancy box buy one from an artisan off Etsy or in real life or something.

I really wanted to hear what the brain doctors had to say

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's a very basic box, which makes it so much funnier

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago

Honestly I was expecting something looking like a little treasure chest or something.

It's just a plain ass box. Like what you would find at a craft store.

Just this morning I was thinking about that one app from like 15 years ago that cost $1000 or something, and it's sole purpose for existing was as a status symbol...that you have so much money you can drop a grand on an app

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, I think it was $999 in the us. Which was the highest you could set an app price at the time.

[–] Dran_Arcana@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I am rich was the og. It was one of the first ios app store apps

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 day ago

Thaaaats the one, thanks!

[–] you_are_dust@lemmy.world 39 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This is the dream. Being so rich that you can sell a wooden box for almost a thousand dollars.

[–] plantfanatic@sh.itjust.works 18 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I mean coffins and ceremonial urns aren’t much cheaper.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 9 points 1 day ago

They're a little fancier.

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think a basic pine casket wouldn't run for 1k

Sure, if you don’t value a persons time at all, nor care about the person you’re burying and just screw plywood together that’ll fall apart when you go and move it.

The material alone would be around $400. Two sheets of 3/4 plywood is $100.

[–] p03locke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

It's one sheet of plywood, Michael, how much could it cost? 50 dollars?

[–] pruwybn@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 1 day ago

Not only is it empty, it's also empty.

[–] PorradaVFR@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Anyone dumb enough to buy it should face backlash.

[–] inari@piefed.zip 10 points 1 day ago

It's a tax on stupid

[–] finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

How does someone so rich stay so in touch with the economic realities the average person lives with? How down to Earth!

[–] 01189998819991197253@infosec.pub 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why the backlash? She was honest with the name. Empty Box, Lost Yo Mind. If they bought it, then they lost their minds, and deserve the empty box.

[–] p03locke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Right, but the description, and by extension Beyonce herself, isn't indicating that this is a joke or some statement against fans mindlessly buying anything they produce. She legit wants her fans to spend $1000 on a box, and frankly the bad press costs more than the $450,000 she expects to get out of it.

[–] JackiesFridge@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If they blatantly say “this is commentary on rampantly consumerism” then the commentary does not work. And either way, there is no bad press. Do people love it? Hate it? Doesn’t matter, they’re talking about it.

[–] p03locke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

And either way, there is no bad press.

The myth that "all advertising is good advertising" is just that. There are reputational impacts from stunts like these.

Just look at how bad Ye has fucked up his career. Sure, he's still rich as hell, but he ain't coming back from that.

[–] p03locke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Okay, point out the sentence.

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)
[–] p03locke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 18 hours ago

That's not a sentence. You're just pointing out how to expand the description, which is already expanded on a desktop monitor, and which I have already read.

Point out the sentence where she says this is just a joke or some form of social commentary.

Oh, well, then the backlash might be warranted.

[–] DonkeyStar@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

But it’s got everything that guy owns in it.

[–] huppakee@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Link's not working for me :(

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net -4 points 1 day ago

You're all just jealous.
