It's even funnier that scripture wise Goliath was like 6'6" to 6'9" most professional basketball players are as tall as or taller than he was said to have been. I'm taller than Goliath for what that is worth.

[–] gdog05@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Motherfuckers out here doing anything to not measure in cubits

[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, but that was a long time ago, average height was 3ft max

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Nah nah, average height was, like, half a foot. I learned it in history class.

[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

Oh you right, three feet was max height, my bad.

[–] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

That's how god damn fucking stupid these mother fuckers are. They don't understand a single fucking thing beyond the most absolute surface level of everything they fucking see and hear. They repeat shit they heard from people they think are smarter than them and they think they're being clever for it.

Fuck dude pisses me right the fuck off, im so fucking over this epidemic of idiocracy. Felt good to vent on a Friday morning tho. Didnt want to hold onto it all day.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago

No like, actually to any American who feels that way, shut up, quit voting, and let those of us with brains and hearts run the country. Canada has done nothing to hurt or offend us unril we started it. They were in fact the best neighbor and ally a country could ask for. Far better neighbors than we were and especially than dipshits like this are

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 240 points 2 days ago (10 children)

This has gotta be the dumbest administration in American history.

[–] Catma@lemmy.world 177 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago (6 children)

Hey, silver lining. I don't believe this one!

I think if our president were any dumber, they couldn't get elected. He's damn near drooling on himself. There has to be something left to sway that many people. And even most idiots wouldn't appoint this many fellow idiots.

It seems really, really hard to have an administration this dumb. I think this is the dumbest possible point.

Now, things can get worse. See Stalin. See this surveillance tech. But I don't think the admin itself can get any dumber than this.

[–] clanker_victim_555@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

You don't have to fear a dumber president. Fear a smarter one. One that's as fascist as Dumpy. But one who actually knows how things work in Washington and can remember things for more than 5 minutes. They'll actually achieve what Dumbdumb has failed at.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

I don't know that that's true. I think anyone smarter would be more invested in the success of the country as a whole.

[–] clanker_victim_555@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Oh you sweet summer child.

So in your world view all the billionaires working people to death and destroying the environment; all the dictators sending their soldiers to die for their ego; and killing their people to silence dissent. All those people are dumber than like charity workers or something?

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 0 points 21 hours ago

Uh, yeah, I think the people perpetuating climate change are pretty fucking dumb. Yes.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 2 points 22 hours ago

Ah, you're adorable. :)

[–] MyBrainHurts@piefed.ca 36 points 1 day ago (4 children)

I remember when we thought things couldn't get dumber than George W...

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 4 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Anyone remember Dan Quayle?

[–] Odo@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago

Hawaii has always been a very pivotal role in the Pacific. It is in the Pacific. It is a part of the United States that is an island that is right here.

A different era.

I think some of them say stupid stuff as a weird power move - "yeah I said bullshit what are you going to do about it? Nothing. Because you're weak"

This is a factor in why fascists only really respond to power. It's all they understand, and even that understanding is limited.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 26 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I have brought up "cruelty signalling" and "vice signalling" a number of times as a conservative counterpart to "virtue signalling"...

But MAGA seems to have progressed it to "ignorance signalling", to show your allegiance to Dear Leader, you must project your idiocy in his likeness.

[–] terranoid@lemmy.cafe 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

this is pretty close to the 1984 doublethink stuff

"War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength."

They're expected to believe conflicting ideas and internalize that the State is right even when you're provided with two conflicting facts.

We are the greatest nation ever, and everyone wants to be us! ... But also the damn Democrats destroyed America, and that's why no one can afford groceries! Gas prices are lower than ever before! But they're not because Biden!

And here we have an example of the American education system on full display.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Does he even know Goliath was the bad guy?

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

Was he even? He was just a big dude who was part of an army that was opposing the (genocidal af) Israelites.

I guess maybe in that, according to the story, he was cocky and challenged them to bring him their best fighters for single combat or whatever, but I dunno. I'd say rampant genocidal army, and a future king who would obsess over foreskins and send his mistress' husband to the front line to die, might be the bad guys there.

Probably worse than just thinking you're a better fighter than you actually are.

[–] SethTaylor@lemmy.world 47 points 1 day ago (2 children)

They do this so often it's amazing. They like villains but forget that villains most often lose

[–] 800XL@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

It's just that American Christian Republicans only know their bible 6th hand thru memes. Like this dumbass who is talking to who he thinks are people that know it 12th hand because his ego is over-inflatedx

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The villains lose because history is written by victors. Pretty sure Amalek would describe their genocide different from the biblical version

Fun fact: almost everybody are dead wrong about David vs Goliath.

David was a seasoned soldier armed with the bronze age equivalent of a 9mm pistol, while Goliath was a huge dude with a club.

The only way Goliath could have had any chance would be if David started the fight in the Goldilocks zone of "within melee range but not so close that the relative size of Goliath and his weapon becomes a disadvantage"

[–] deacon@lemmy.world 32 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

To the extent he is an historical figure, it wasn’t even David who killed him, as I understand it. Rather it was an appropriation of a the valor of one of David’s own soldiers by David’s biographer/Propagandist/Deuteronomist since seemingly their own sources say that Elhanan killed him:

IN ANOTHER BATTLE WITH THE PHILISTINES AT GOB, ELHANAN SON OF JAIR THE BETHLEHEMITE KILLED GOLIATH THE GITTITE, WHO HAD A SPEAR WITH A SHAFT LIKE A WEAVER’S ROD

2 Samuel 21:19

It seems unlikely that any scribe in a Davidic regime would get away with the reverse; attributing one of King David’s most heralded victories to a lowly son of Jair.

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 6 points 1 day ago

I always imagine goliath just being a huge dude. But not like hafthor, but more like a disabled guy that has gigantism and everything hurts. But hey, tall guy

Wars Canada has been on the losing side of:

End of list.

[–] bumblefumble@mander.xyz 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 day ago (10 children)

That's more of a geopolitical paradox being played out for profit than an ACTUAL war, though..

It sounds like Canada needs to burn down the White House again.

A giant, blustering and bragging in his hubris, only to get his ass handed to him by a rock wielding shepherd. In a match he should easily have won.

Not a situation the US would be familiar with at all. /s
