Saber who? adds to ignore list on Steam

[–] jasoman@lemmy.world 129 points 6 days ago (4 children)

So stay away from saber games.

[–] makyo@lemmy.world 44 points 6 days ago

I knew nothing about them until now and his statement reveals a lot more about their company than even hers did

[–] v3ctors@piefed.blahaj.zone 15 points 6 days ago

Just added saber to my ignore list on steam. No thanks slop peddlers.

Karch also stated that he didn't know who Sacco was until he consulted an AI chatbot, but nevertheless claimed that she was replaced by "someone more talented" and that he would retrospectively be "happy to replace her with AI" because AI is "programmed to be honest."

Here's Karch's full statement:

"Stella who? I had to ask Claude because I have never spoken to her or seen her. We have already said we are using AI for certain parts of the game and will update the Steam page once we have finalized the feature set.

Tbh that sounds totally like a rant by someone caught in the act...

Stella who? I had to ask Claude because I have never spoken to her or seen her.

Man, these people have lost their fucking marbles...

[–] tuckerm@feddit.online 37 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, this quote confirms that the CEO has become AI-obsessed and therefore probably did replace the writer with AI, just like the writer claimed.

Also, it is always so weird to me when people admit that they used AI to do something that they definitely should've been able to do without AI. "I had to ask Claude who this employee was" is not a dunk on the employee! You're just admitting that you don't even know how to search for a name in your own HR system! Like you're an incapable moron or something!

[–] Carmakazi@piefed.social 27 points 6 days ago (2 children)

"I don't know who you are" is a common insult from pathological narcissists, which I guess is what he was trying to convey.

[–] raze2012@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago

And to the people, not knowing your employees (or giving a damn to look them up) implies a structure where leadership is disconnected from the craftsmen that actually bring value to the company. Making leadership look out of touch, unrelatable, and outright crass.

Not to mention that he proves the writer correct in their accusation by admitting he does use AI and relishes in it.

[–] Zarobi@aussie.zone 11 points 6 days ago

To a narcissist, being unknown or forgotten is the worst possible insult

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 76 points 6 days ago

Dude went full psycho and confirmed story more or less. Not a great look for this asshole and the company.

[–] captain_oni@lemmy.blahaj.zone 28 points 6 days ago (1 children)

" because AI is "programmed to be honest."

HAHAhA no. LLMs are programmed to give you the most likely answer according to their training data, not necessarily the truth. For an example look at how much Grok has been lobotomized to fit his daddy's warped sense of reality.

[–] crazyslinkz@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 days ago

They are designed to be agreeable. It's a fucking "yes" man.

Dude says he asked AI who one of his employees was instead of reaching out to HR

Truly an example of trash humans failing upwards

[–] scrion@lemmy.world 18 points 6 days ago

Yup, exactly that. Not only does that show they internalized using AI for the most banal tasks and think that's normal, but also just shows how tone deaf they are in a discussion about using AI to replace an employee 🤦🏽‍♂️

Don't care about the rest, but this one stings a little. Thankfully, the originals are still fun to play.

Sail the seas if it reviews good.

[–] raze2012@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago

Untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender title

That one was already cancelled, by the way.

[–] lobut@lemmy.ca 6 points 6 days ago

Thanks I'll make sure to avoid them in the future!

Thanks for the list. They're going on my black list as well

[–] andyburke@fedia.io 55 points 6 days ago

Saber CEO who?

Never heard of this little guy. Now I know he and his company are garbage, tho. 🤷‍♂️👍

[–] teawrecks@sopuli.xyz 47 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Let me clarify that the entire story script, were it to win an award, would go to someone who can walk up on stage and receive it.

That's sooooo not the question

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 16 points 6 days ago

Don't worry. It's not going to win any awards.

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 days ago

"We'll draw straws at the time"

[–] PonyOfWar@pawb.social 29 points 6 days ago

Dude sounds like a slightly more coherent Trump. Even included the obligatory "I don't even know her" line.

[–] viral.vegabond@piefed.social 26 points 6 days ago

He's mad because she was right.

[–] Z745812939054@lemmy.zip 21 points 6 days ago

lol fuck that douchebag

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 17 points 6 days ago

If you're going to fight a writer on their turf (=words), you should absolutely expect to be assassinated

[–] ToiletFlushShowerScream@piefed.world 15 points 6 days ago (3 children)

I've heard nothing but negative things about the gaming industry as of late. Does a majority of it stem from the industry being led by scumbag CEOs like this one?

[–] ParlimentOfDoom@piefed.zip 23 points 6 days ago

So much consolidation in the last decade means that the majority of the by AAA game devs are owned by like 2-3 companies at this point. It's horrendous.

Like Activision used to be the nicest publisher. Then it merged with Blizzard and Vivendi (who owned Bethesda), and then Microsoft just straight up bought them, and King (candy crush dev). And now MS wants almost nothing to do with games after doing fuck all with those acquisitions except laying people off and closing some of the studios.

[–] webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 5 points 6 days ago

The majority of games made by the gaming industry exist purely to create profit.

This is not the artist and developers fault, they are still passionate but their hands are tied to executive whims.

It’s genuinely almost all shit. The only good games left are indie games and older gems.

Honestly way cheaper and not requiring the latest hardware either.

[–] raze2012@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

I wish I could blame it all on these kinds of people. In reality it's about 60% of the story or so. They've always been around but they weren't this bold a decade ago.

A small part is the political climate over the last decade. That's a topic worth its own encyclopedia one day, and games is affected as well.

A large part is that games just isn't doing well financially right now. Because everyone in tech wants to invest in AI so there's a lot less money in the space. Smaller or medium sized teams can't get funding and less pitches get approved. Larger studios are "fine" but companies are using this time to cash out. Which is why you hear about Activision selling out to Microsoft and EA to Saudi Arabia. Layoffs at small companies happen because they need to (or companies simply shut down) , layoffs at large companies happen to make the number go up.

Last decent chunk of the problem is the landscape of games is changing. Converging more on "forever games" rather than traditional console experiences. This is an emerging problem that will get worse over the coming years, something even the consoles themselves are trying to shape itself around.

Been playing snowrunner again lately bc i'm away from home for a couple weeks and it runs well on my laptop/plays well with controller. It didn't used to stick out so much but the amount of petroleum industry propaganda is glaring now. Fun game, but it's a shame this CEO is so shitty, guess I won't be buying any more Saber content.

[–] Widdershins@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

This fucking company making headlines just reminded me of how big a pile of shit The Knightling is. It is almost a game that is playable. It fools you into thinking it may be fun to play until the play time elapses well past the demo zone and your chances to refund it are gone. Then the nonsense starts to become apparent. The intuitive direction just dissappears. The goals evaporate along with any sense of progression or direction. The peaks of difficulty and the valleys of guidance make for a game that completely unravels by the third act.

I have patience for a crappy game. Back in the Blockbuster days gambling your weekend on a random game off the shelf was half the fun. You'd roll the dice and have 2 days to find some fun in what could be a real stinker. The knightling holds any appeal for less time than a Blockbuster rental period. I am having trouble finding the correct words to say that it very quickly turns from a low budget adventure game to a huge fucking mess. The bar was low and they still walked under it on their tip toes with their hands in the air.

Seeing this studio pop up in the news for being shitty just reminded me of a game I would have been very happy to have forgotten about. Even well outside the guidelines for a return I will make an attempt to do exactly that.

Holy shit what a horrible concept for a game..

[–] Entropy_Pyre@lemmy.ca 7 points 6 days ago

Making a note to myself to review bomb later kthx.

[–] exupulosion@sh.itjust.works 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

This game is made in a country that bombs civilians daily and threatens the whole world with nuclear weapons (not, not US and not Israel either) but who cares

[–] esc@piefed.social 4 points 6 days ago

You can just say it plainly - saber is r*ssian.
