As of a few minutes ago old.reddit.com now seems to requre logging in to access it.

Shame as it was still the best place to browse for info about some niche interests.

Edit: Seems like they might be testing the change as it is hit or miss at the moment.

Edit: Adding this to My flilters in uBlock Origin seems to fix the issue for the time being:

I'm sick of reddit. I've been banned three times for calling out Nazis. Nazis don't get banned though

[–] mrmisses@lemmy.world 4 points 51 minutes ago

Same. I said "fuck republicans" and got 'permanently suspended'... which is just the dumbest thing in itself

[–] max@europe.pub 3 points 1 hour ago

That’s one ode the reasons why I switched to lemmy

[–] Egret@lemmus.org 3 points 1 hour ago

Which is why I’m reading this here and not on Reddit

[–] sensimillagodzilla@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 hour ago

Mostly just lurk Reddit, so this sucks major nads.

[–] An1m4L@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 hours ago

https://redlib.catsarch.com/ <- this works for me but, like most comments are saying, reddit became a stinkhole of bots, agendas and stealth advertising. it kinda makes me sick to go there nowadays.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 hour ago

They are also forcing it for regular reddit. I get a pop up and when closed you can't scroll. There is even a thread about what to put in ublock to work around it.

[–] FE80@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Logging into old.reddit.com via tor browser works intermittently. As far as I can tell the reddit onion site is entirely broken.

[–] corey931@lemmy.wtf 12 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Fuck ‘em. We’re here anyway

[–] Flagstaff@programming.dev 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

I'm on both because the activity there is just unbeatable for niche topics, but I have been successful at bringing at least 1 or 2 other redditors over here and will continue to preach there!

Same, I still lurk in some subreddits because there isn’t a spot here for them yet. Niche hobby subreddits are Reddit's strong spot.

[–] ironpangolin29@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 hour ago

Reddit thinks they're an exclusivity club nowadays. Love that mentality for them, just a platform full of bots, misinformation purposed for political polarization.

They wouldn't even let me delete my account last week, "errors occured" so I just uninstalled. Good riddance.

[–] Teknikal@anarchist.nexus 5 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

Reddit has gotten really lame, there's always been saddos who troll through entire post history's when they can't win an argument.

Lately they've changed stratagies to calling people underage instead hoping mods delete accounts or something I guess. It just comes across as absolutely pathetic to me.

But yeah Reddit is definitely breaking old.reddit on purpose and will probably be just mostly bots soon .

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Every post history digger uses AI tools to summarize user posts and then picks something to attack them on.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 2 points 51 minutes ago (1 children)

Nah I do my own post history digging by hand. Usually only look when a user is being particularly ornery or an ass and then a post history look reveals whether they're a troll or not.

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 1 points 3 minutes ago (1 children)

On Reddit I mean. There are many tool for it like https://roastdit.kadoa.com/ especially used by right-wingers. (disclaimer I do not know what the exact tool they use is, probably not that one)

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 minutes ago

I meant on Reddit as well.

Some may use AI, but looking at post history is a long held tradition on social media sites.

[–] sanitation@lemmy.today 3 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Not just old reddit. Regular reddit also got login gated

[–] Capybara_mdp@reddthat.com 16 points 4 hours ago (3 children)

While I’ve been on Lemmy for a while, I haven’t really seen any hobby - centric or geek centric areas.

I’ll miss the movie threads in particular, but there were a ton of active crafts, art & ttrpg threads to get inspiration from. Any suggestions?

[–] Grizzlybur@piefed.ca 1 points 14 minutes ago* (last edited 14 minutes ago)

I run a few small communities on the fediverse, and its tough trying to start one up. Granted I try to keep mine canadian focused, but its an uphill battle either way. I was never one to volunteer or be an admin of a community, but I wanted to get the ball rolling somehow. Very disheartening to realize I'm the only one posting in the community, esp because I'm just a lurker at heart.

[–] Q_the_misanthrope@startrek.website 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I’ve been struggling to find a movie thread replacement. Seems like all the movie communities are dead. Any recommendations?

[–] sanitation@lemmy.today 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

What do u mean? Just search for movies and television communities - piefed has largest

https://piefed.social/c/television

https://piefed.social/c/movies

[–] Dingo_Kidneys@lemmy.today 1 points 2 hours ago

"Has the largest" meaning a 3 comment average per thread. That's what the OC is talking about. The communities in Lemmy World are really small in a way that makes it hard to hold together a sub. A new movie comes out and maybe one or two people talk about it on Lemmy while Reddit has hundreds.

Then you might say, be the change you want to see, but Lemmy has a pretty small install base. Even if you participate, there isn't anyone to follow, because the users here are usually white collar tech folk. Hence the interest groups being tech and politics.

[–] corey931@lemmy.wtf 2 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

We can always create them here, no? But yeah, they were really good

[–] Allero@lemmy.today 9 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Completely unrelated question: any recommendations for a good porn feed, besides fedinsfw.app?

[–] Doom@discuss.online 8 points 5 hours ago (3 children)

I could start streaming my showers? I take two a day

[–] Test_Tickles@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago

I know that you meant this as a joke, but this is literally how online communities are built. One really dedicated nutter just keeps posting OC whether anyone else wants it or not, and slowly other people start adding stuff because it's an active place.

So, you go right ahead and you do you.

[–] cdf12345@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (2 children)

Golden or otherwise?

(Trying to come up with a good reason for multiple showers per day, unless you live somewhere hotter and more humid than Satan’s asshole)

[–] XeroxCool@lemmy.world 1 points 8 minutes ago

Not OC, but I'll sometimes take 2 a day in the summer. I'm pretty oily. Showering in the morning is fine for my skin feelings through the day, but it means I'm oiliest overnight and my sheets will show it. If I shower before bed, I end up feeling uncomfortably greasy by dinner the next day. So, two showers keeps me feeling acceptable. Summers typically hover around 30C and 60%+ humidity for two months, on top of additional outdoor activities.

Or, I guess, shortest alternative answer, I know several people that shower right after morning exercise and are otherwise night showerers.

[–] mrmisses@lemmy.world 1 points 49 minutes ago

unless you live somewhere hotter and more humid than Satan’s asshole

Ah yes, Missouri
