Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

“Elementary-aged children are now asking questions about sex, gender identity and pronouns and gender presentation,” said Aaron Driver, whose child attends the school, in comments shared by the Libs of TikTok account. “That creates an educational issue, and therefore a parental rights issue”

Aaron driver is a shitty parent

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 32 points 1 month ago

Both in fact

[–] Capable_Coping@piefed.social 44 points 1 month ago (2 children)

"parental rights" is usually just code for instilling bigotry or other abuse

[–] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There is no such thing as parental rights.

There are only parental responsibilities.

Those who think they have rights over other human beings(including children) are akin to slave owners.

They view children as property. So teaching their "property" things like "rights" and "tolerance" is just like... installing Linux on their PCs. It makes it completely unusable to them, especially because they don't like learning.

[–] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 month ago

100% agree.

Conservatives are such a heady mix of stupid and dishonest.

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

And don't forget the secret ingredient: malice.

[–] hume_lemmy@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago

Considering how these folks tend to end up: has anyone checked Aaron's PC for any "hidden" folders full of pictures?

[–] Custard@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I guarantee you those kids would be asking anyway. Do Americans not have sex ed in elementary school?

[–] nickiwest@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Sex Ed varies by state and sometimes by school district. In elementary school, it's frequently limited to "good touch, bad touch"-type lessons.

It's not uncommon for parents to need to "opt in" for their kids to be included in the lessons at all ages. Basically, they have to approve of letting their kids learn about sexual health.

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Doesn't really happen until middle school here. I had a Health class in 5th grade that was basically like "your body is going to change, please take showers every day, and use this stuff called deodorant."

Actual sex-ed wasn't until 7th grade, and even then, it was basically "Boys, here is all the horrible stuff that will happen to your dick if you get an STD. Girls, the urge to have sex will turn you into worthless husks, also, here's some horrible shit that can happen to your pussy."

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 3 points 1 month ago

"Also draw and diagram these things."

Lol the only time I was ever given an A for drawing a dick on a paper. 😂

What a confusing headline. I don't think most reasonable people would know or assume that 'Libs of Tiktok' is a conservative hate group.

[–] generic_computers@lemmy.zip 56 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Less of a group and more just a cunt named Chaya Raichik.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 33 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah I don't understand why the media doesn't name her.

Oh wait maybe I do...

[–] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

Yep. It's rich given that the article says she "strongly objected" when WaPo publicly identified her as the founder behind the Libs of TikTok account in 2022. Just like all bullies, she can't bear even a fraction of what she dishes out on the regular.

It’s one of those iykyk things. I detest TikTok and refuse to use it (and short form brainrot video bullshit in general), but I’ve been aware of it as a hard-right channel/user/whatever for a while now.

[–] SaltySalamander@fedia.io 16 points 1 month ago (15 children)

When's the last time you ever heard a liberal refer to themselves as a "lib"?

Precisely the point. It's a literal false flag.

[–] Pavidus@lemmy.world 27 points 1 month ago

Can confirm. I know someone who lost their career over this bitch.

[–] Blibly@lemmy.world 54 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I guess stochastic terrorism just isn't a crime? She's been doing this targeted harassment for years. Our country is failing partly because the law just isn't enforced on anyone like this. The fuck is going on?

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 42 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I guess stochastic terrorism just isn’t a crime?

It's only terrorism when it comes from the terrorist region of Afghanistan.

When a Zionist does it, it's Sparkling Free Speech.

[–] Maestro@fedia.io 7 points 1 month ago

Sparkling ~~Free Speech~~ Genocide

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 3 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Because the law recognises a difference between direct and indirect causes.

If it recognised indirect causes then Lemmy would fucking implode due to the amount of people wishing death to various individuals.

JFC. Chaya Raichik is so gross.

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago (2 children)

This headline makes no fucking sense. Did you want to clarify at some point here, or just expect everyone to know the inner workings of TikTok?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It's one crazy bitch that posts awful stuff. Her name is Chaya Raichik.

Indeed, the MAGA fucknuts are making their push.

I'm so glad TikTok isn't owned by those nefarious censorship loving foreigners anymore.

[–] Headofthebored@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

That shit was hilarious. Popular platform owned by China who didn't censor anything but presumably anti-China topics, but the US couldn't censor or suppress any of what they wanted, because they didn't control it, and they were big mad about it. It was fun while it lasted.

[–] Ashenlux@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 month ago

Oh my god, she is still around? I haven't heard about her in a while. Looks like they are trying to drum up more trans hate again. She is just a propaganda pusher.

[–] qevlarr@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

She's so stupid. Watch that interview by Taylor Lorenz if you don't believe she's dumb as bricks

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

She's a far right propagandist against queer and liberal people despite being an American Jewish woman. I don't know how much dumber I can be convinced she is unless she regularly forgets how to breathe

[–] Tiral@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Can we please just go back to the 90s/2000s FML.
