Even completely disregarding how insulting this is, isn't it just confusing in a global world where its easy to speak to people from India?

Indigenous. Easy to say, means only one thing. MLAs should have been using it for years.
While I agree with you, it’s still a moot point as far as I’m concerned. “Indians” are from “India”. It’s long past the time that anyone should be calling Indigenous people “Indians”. Either Findlay is being purposely disrespectful, or completely ignorant.
Totally agree; I’ve been reserving “Indian” for people from India for the past 40+ years.
I used to get funny looks for it sometimes and people trying to correct me to say “East Indian” — to which my response was always “they’re Indian. Anyone from the West Indies could be called West Indian if they want, but these people aren’t from East India, they’re from India.”
I find Indigenous a little hard to say, but I'm bad at talking. First Nations was at least easy for me to say.

That's the first I've heard that it's outdated. All the offices and vehicles around here are branded as First Nations.
Old stuff doesn’t get updated. I remember when it all said “Indian Tribe” — and that was long after the move to First Nations.
There’s an interesting kernel buried in there in that we’re all apparently stuck with the Indian Act and a bunch of downstream shit that stems from that. It would be a good cultural protest if it were being championed by indigenous groups.
But it’s not. It’s the BC Conservatives, so it’s just another example of their zero calorie racism they’re trying to make palatable.
Well... that is a thing to stand up and say in public. All the problems to choose from and this is what she wants to "fix" with her party 🙄
Were they infiltrated by OneBC?
OneBC only exists because the "regular" Conservatives aren't racist enough.
