The headline is highly misleading as someone has already said.

But @avidamoeba@lemmy.ca has been criticizing Postmedia and other U.S. outlet frequently, but now as the title conveys the 'Canada bad' narrative the source doesn't matter anymore. This hypocrisy is very telling imo.

As if everyone knows all the newspapers owned by Postmedia by heart. You certainly don't. Neither do I. Unlike you I don't argue to save face when a source is deemed gabage by the community.

Canada bad my ass. Unlike you I live in Canada, pay a ton of taxes, and am raising a child here. Oh and I have donated quite abit to Carney's campaign and votd for him. I have the full right to shit on what he does. You have no leg to stand on. So I suggest you GTFO with this projection.

The Government Operations Centre is not the nerve centre for managing wildfires and this headline is supremely misleading. The GOC operates to enable federal coordination to emergencies. It's mandate is codified in the Emergency Management Framework for Canada, Federal Policy, and Federal emergency response plan. The GOC coordinates and does not manage wildfires at all.

They function to coordinate information across federal departments and agencies and when a request for assistance is recieved the GOC will coordinate across departments and the provinces.

Wildfires are managed predominantly by local jurisdictions such and provinces and territories and Parks Canada within parks.

Edit- People can read more about the GOC in the FERP and its role during emergencies here - https://www.publicsafety.gc.ca/cnt/rsrcs/pblctns/mrgnc-rspns-pln/index-en.aspx#a35

Cuts are real, but the cuts would not impact the local jurisdiction capacity to respond

The Ottawa Citizen is owned by American investors.

More specifically Chatham Asset Management

According to a 2018 article in Fortune, Chatham is known for its close ties to the Republican Party.[3] Chatham has a reputation for hard-edged business tactics.

Postmedia are right-wing shit stirrers and will not fuck off blasting their damaging shit in our country using many different of their BS "news" outlets.
