Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

I wish it were a rule to put the name of the comic in the title, so we can weed out the low quality ones according to preference.

[–] Hawanja@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

See? My "low quality" comic spurrned a meaningful discussion about the storage and disposal of nuclear waste.

You're welcome.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Hey, no offense. You probably work hard on it and all that. I appreciate the effort.

It's just not for me. I just don't see a) any message that speaks to me, personally (probably not looking hard enough or am able to see subtlety clearly enough, or something), or b) anything that sticks out to me as comical.

But you have every right to post, so I don't want you to stop posting because of me. (You clearly won't, either, judging by your tough-skinned response, so that's great. πŸ‘)

Take care!

No one understands my work.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 33 minutes ago

Hey, 66% does!

[–] k0e3@lemmy.ca 8 points 21 hours ago

This is so stupid, I love it. It reminds me of comics my brother and I would make when we were in elementary school.

It's just a comic but made me think. Is there nuclear waste that's flammable?

[–] Siethron@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

There's a dump near my workplace that has old radioactive waste buried deep. It is also on fire (underground) and has been slowly burning for like the last decade.

[–] KokusnussRitter@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

That sounds interesting. Do you mind sharing where the dump is?

[–] Siethron@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

North west St Louis County

I don't think so. And if there is, the cask it's transported in would not be damaged by a floating burning head hitting it.

[–] Photonic@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

I don’t know. This head looks pretty giant. About as big as the trailer of the truck.

But even if it was damaged and there were some flammable fluids inside it still wouldn’t set off a nuclear explosion.

[–] Photonic@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

Depends on what you mean by flammable. Yes it exists, but it’s not explosive like in the comic, and it definitely wouldn’t set off a nuclear explosion.

That being said, not all nuclear waste comes from nuclear power plants. For example medical isotope production facilities and nuclear medicine departments at hospitals have nuclear waste as well. Most gets stored on-site until the radioactive elements decay below a certain threshold and it can go with the regular waste, but some waste containing longer-lived radionuclides gets transferred to facilities where it can be stored for several years.

Nuclear research facilities will likely have some flammable waste as well.

I don’t mind the illustration work, but I feel like the premise and writing need some help. The protagonist is clearly plagued by being an armless hot head, nothing wrong with that, but does he have any depth beyond that or is every comic going to be a rehash of the same theme?

[–] Hawanja@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Yeah totally, I've got a 17 part epic masterpiece planned. There's gonna plots, subplots, subterfuge, love, betrayal, double fake-outs, all that stuff. It'll be the most intense comic about a floating, burning, disembodied head ever.

[–] wizzim@infosec.pub 2 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

Can't wait for the FHCU, the Flaming Head Cinematic Universe.

[–] Harvey656@lemmy.world 6 points 23 hours ago

I'd actually like to see that.
