Goddamn they really don't have faith in this do they?

For comparison Superman released in theaters on July 11th 2025, and digital on August 15th 2025, or 35 days. Supergirl released in theaters on June 26th 2026, and digital on July 28th 2026, or 32 days.

Similarly Superman hit HBO streaming after 70 days, so Supergirl will probably reach HBO streaming in roughly the same timeline, so end of August 2026.

The reception might have shifted it a week earlier, but this was likely already planned before the film was even released.

Isn't it 1 year and 35 days?

The film went to streaming on the 15th of August 2025. OP had a typo in their date.

Whoops, typo my bad.

I heard it wasn't doing well in the theater but damn. One month at the box office then digital release? Talk about trying to get as much money back as quickly as they can.

I saw it in theatres and it was Ok.

Movie spoilers

Only complaints were that the plot/villains were a little boring, mainly setting themselves up to oppose the two protagonists (women/girls) as slavers/human sex traffickers. Wish they fleshed out who the villains were a little more. They were just evil for the sake of being evil. Not any remorseful attempt by them to appeal to their nature or traditions to explain their inhumane treatment of girls.

The supporting cast didn’t get much character development either, Jason Momoa as usual does nothing in this film and the sidekick has a teary but uninteresting story after their backstory is revealed - which I’ll admit had me invested initially, though it didn’t really pay off. I thought the whole bit with SG not wanting sidekick to kill was a bit stupid and rushed, since it kinda sabotaged her entire goal (and purpose?) since killing the villain was their entire arc. SG had her own reasons for pursuing the villain so at the end I questioned why this character was even in the movie if they had no purpose to fulfill.

I won’t say anything terrible about the protag’s main storyline since I was genuinely hoping she got to see her dog again and the line where she gave her dying breaths under a green sun “I should be dying there with you” was a pretty emotional

The superhero scenes were pretty cool though so that’s that

Vudu you think it is?

PPV streaming service. It was bought by Fandango years ago and officially renamed Fandango at Home in 2024, so I’m not sure why they’re using that name here

I want bluray with director's commentary.

I watched Superman's commentary, it was amazing

I, too, would like to know what the fuck Craig Gillespie was thinking on this one.

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I don't think the commentary will reveal much. The bones of this film aren't too bad, and individually I think most scenes worked. But put together, without the right connective scenes, that's where the film falls apart.

I know there is talk of a slightly longer directors cut out there, but the scenes cut don't sound like they'd fix the film. But some new scenes to add context, that is what we're missing.

The ending for example,

Tap for spoilerKara killing Krem. I understand the idea that she is trying to "save" Ruthye. However it doesn't explain why. We haven't seen Kara take on a burden any more than Ruthye. How does Kara know that revenge isn't the answer?

Seriously? Good reason why this is direct to digital.

Some people would watch a turd in a cape sitting in a field for two hours.

it's a horrible film.

Anyone else remember when it would be a solid year from seeing something in theaters and getting to watch it at home?
