Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

it's not clear what this petition is asking the UK government or parliament to do

i mean it's pretty obvious in the title....

[–] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago

It's very clear what the petition wants the UK government to do. What a bunch of corrupt liars

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 181 points 3 days ago (3 children)

What do you mean "it's not clear"? It was very fucking clear i think.

[–] TachyonTele_Esq@piefed.social 68 points 3 days ago

I bet if there was more estrogen in our water, they would understand it.

[–] GalacticSushi@lemmy.blahaj.zone 61 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Estrogen is a category of sex hormones. Would've been more clear if they specified estradiol.

But maybe the voters wanted a spectrum, or specific varieties to be determined by local need/availability?

[–] flamingos@feddit.uk 28 points 3 days ago (9 children)

It's because they misspelt oestrogen, the govt wasn't sure what they were talking about.

That's pretty sensible.

Oral estrogen causes liver damage

Yes but so does toxic masculinity. Free bottled water for transmascs, and it would still be a net savings.

[–] wezzzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Do you have a studie on this cuz i asked my hormone doctor and they told me oral has no extrq chance of liver damage over paches or cream

[–] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

That is kind of true as estrogen doesn't cause "damage" like alcohol does, but oral estrogen increases risk of blood clots in a way that transdermal estrogen routes don't.

Also I would warn against taking everything your endocrinologist as gospel since often hormone providers don't really know that much about trans people specifically. Mine has given me false information several times in the year or so I've been with them and asked me how HRT side effects work when I told him he was wrong.

as for the source here's a wikipedia article and the study behind the citation.

[–] wezzzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 11 hours ago

Damn paches for me then thanks :)

[–] Feathercrown@lemmy.world 56 points 3 days ago

That is objectively the incorrect rejection reason

[–] isleepinahammock@lemmy.blahaj.zone 54 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Unfortunately, this is not a practical possibility. Estrogen, testosterone, and other such hormones have poor water solubility. It's also less stable in water. There's a reason injections use bases such as MCT or castor oil. If they could be compounded in water, they would. People sometimes are allergic to carrier oils, so eliminating them entirely is preferable if possible.

[–] atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone 55 points 3 days ago (1 children)

they are the uk gouvernment
just make a law that says estrogen must have a high water solubility and that the laws of physics dont apply inside theur borders

compromise, cold water tap has estrogen, hot water tap has testosterone.

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 2 days ago

mix them for Gender Fluid

[–] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 16 points 3 days ago (1 children)

But all tap is cold, its only hot because of the water heater.

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 29 points 3 days ago (1 children)

the heater adds the testosterone

[–] Quokka@quokk.au 24 points 3 days ago

Testosterone is stored in the heat tank

A real Ranma situation

[–] cecinestpasunecommunication@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's so sad. Would you like some western trans neuroprogramming music?

I think we can put it in some Rachmaninoff or something to bridge the culture gap.

[–] erinmeow@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

yay yes, i currently listesing queer artists!!!! "which making me hate family country and making me woke", aaaaaa it so annoying that propaganda machine rly do shitakes like that, and they have medical license, i also had from another "DOCTOR psychiatrist" which i was forced

This would ensure the transfem community stays adequately hydrated.

[–] DokPsy@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

Look, we all know none of us neuro spicy are getting enough water so if this helps a small percentage, I say do it. Frogs be damned

you think this is a trans led petition.

but the pharmaceutical industry is behind this
