Welcome to YUROP
The Ultimate Eurozone of Culture, Chaos, and Continental Excellence

A glorious gathering place to celebrate (and lovingly roast) the lands, peoples, quirks, and contradictions of Her Most Magnificent Europa. From the fjords to the Med, the steppes to the Atlantic spray, this is a shrine to everything that makes Europe gloriously weird, wonderfully diverse, and occasionally passive-aggressive in 24 languages.

Here we toast:
πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί The progressive Union of Peace (and paperwork)
πŸ§€ The freest of health care
🍷 The finest of foods
πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ The liberalest of liberties
🌍 The proud non-members and honorary cousins πŸ’Ά And the eternal dance of unity, confusion, and cultural banter.

Post memes, news, satire, linguistic wars, train maps, cursed food photos, Eurovision fever, propaganda and whatever makes you scream β€œonly in YUROP.”

Leave your stereotypes at the border control and enjoy the ride.

That's not how I as a German view my own country or my neighbors. Just in case any Czech or Polish people are wondering.

Those aren't even particularly fitting stereotypes. The common stereotype for Poles is that they're all car thieves. For Czechs... probably that they're even more drunk than us but that's just the default stereotype for everyone east of us.

(And of course both of those are just cultural memes and nothing I actually believe.)

It’s the British (β€žInselaffenβ€œ) the Germans compare to apes

I second this. I never heard anyone referring Czech or Polish people to apes and also never heard that Polish people are overly angry in any way compared to others.

Polish* media seems to be very upset about Germany whenever it comes to football.

*some. Probably the shittier newspapers.

All the Poles I have met personally were fine people.

Some highschoolers in 2080 will have to study these memes in history class and they are going to be super confused.

The germans i know usually view themself more in line with the specific culture in their region. (Bavarian, Nordic etc.)

People in most parts of Germany see themselves as two things: Firstly, as someone from their own region. Secondly, as sometime who isn't Bavarian.

The Polish view of the Poles, can someone please explain?

[–] hOrni@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Patriotic badasses. I obviously don't have to mention, that people who view themselves like that have IQs similar to their body temp.

I love my Polish friends, but Poland has a bad reputation about being overly nationalistic to say the least.

White, blond, christian, healthy/strong, smart (glasses?), nationalist/proud of being Polish, badass winged hussars are badass and possibly also some 'empire' type sentiments regarding the former commonwealth with Lithuania?

I have some family like this in Poland and I know some Polish history, so this was a semi-educated guess based on that.

True true, I was wondering if this was a reference to a specific person or character.

Ah. I'm not actually Polish and my Polish media knowledge is kinda limited to 1670 qnd a few other random Polish netflix shows and Bolek i Lolek, lmao, so I really have no idea.

I do have a dickhead of a cousin though who looks just like that, so it's probably just a stereotype as I doubt Marek has enough imagination to be an individual.

(1670 is fucking hillarious btw, fully reccomend it)

I think poles view themselves as true patriots of their country and true beacon of Catholic church on the East

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

How the average PiS voter views themselves.

OMG I had missed the doner in the german's hand.. was already laughing while I noticed it, started spitting, gotta go clean up now.

If the Czech view themselves as "The Good Soldier Ε vejk" why aren't they rejoining with Austria. I am sure we can dig out some leftover Habsburgers for that K&K feeling.

[–] Jiral@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Not that anyone cares but I think Austrians view Czechs the same way that Czechs view themselves in that image. I don't know how it is the other way round, if they hate Austrians for the counter reformation, the monarchy, Nazis or all of the above.

Hey, but we all love powidl, don't we?
