Icarus Robotics is a startup with at least six million dollars in funding so far. the idea is to train robots on human workers to make space mass production... work. or something.

@sc_griffith

Coincidentally, I was passing Brasilia airport yesterday, and there's a company called "Icarus Aviation". Which I thought was a ... bold ... choice of name.

I guess the real innovation we might hope from a company like this is that they make robots that don't break, even when they fall from LEO. 🀣

@sc_griffith

Their favourite part of the Story Of Icarus was when Icarus jumped in the IcarusMobile and shouted "It's Icarussin' Time" and then sped away in a cloud of smoke

@sc_griffith Icarus Robotics, a division of Hubris Holdings.

@sc_griffith Is there a way to tell these baby Founders that "No Man's Sky" isn't real.

[–] swggrkllr3rd@mastodon.world 2 points 20 hours ago

@nzJayZee @sc_griffith It's maga Science, like Steam Rockets & Titan submersible.

@sc_griffith the only thing I still believe is that we'll have Kessler's Syndrome by the end of the decade.

@sc_griffith Using "Icarus" for a space company just shows that the founders don't have a basic knowledge of mythology.

I'm just waiting for it to fly too high and then crash and burn.

I mean, Perseus is right there for dudes who want to be manly space cowboy kinglets.

[–] tautology@infosec.exchange 2 points 13 hours ago

@o7___o7 Or Daedalus, the one that didn't melt their wings. Though TBH they'd probably mangle the pronunciation.

They say β€œthe arts” are a waste of time.

As I grow older, I realize that the technical skills are easy to acquire and that knowledge, understanding, and wisdom takes time.

With a name like that, there’s no limit to the heights they can reach!

Ha, that is the same name the sun energy system has in the Peter Watts Blindsight series.

It eventually falls into the sun.

Spoiler ahead for B5: And then Icarus will discover a strange dark ship.

And we'll get the second worst film

This reminded me of this.
