  • That didn't happen.
  • And if it did, it wasn't that bad.
  • And if it was, that's not a big deal.
  • And if it is, that's not my fault.
  • And if it was, I didn't mean it.
  • And if I did, you deserved it. <-

We got here on this subject a lot quicker than I expected honestly.

Oh don't worry, we'll hit the other points again real soon. Consistency is not this guy's strength

Before the election: Biden inflation! Biden inflation! LOOK AT THESE EGG PRICES!! Vote Trump to fix the inflation! Inflation bad!

Now: Inflation good. I love inflation. I did it on purpose.

MAGA: baaa baaa!

[–] bradinutah@thelemmy.club 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Inflation is one of those big words, kinda like 'economist' or 'groceries.' When you're a MAGA, how can you be expected to know these things?

[–] Astronut@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 week ago

“The less you know, The less you have to do!”

                 ~MAGA~
[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 50 points 1 week ago (7 children)

I've been thinking this basically the whole time with the second administration. It's the most conspiracy oriented I've ever been, but I genuinely think there is a non zero chance that the entire goal of this administration has been to crash the dollar and world economy to force the globe into a position where digital currencies take over nation state derived currency as the foundation of global markets. I'd say I'm 5-10% confident this is the case, which is very high.

That their goal is to destabilize not just the world, but the very concept of nation-states to be replaced with a corporate/privately owned concept of a nation state or state level actor.

I know there are specific conspiratorial threads on this concept but I e intentionally avoided looking into those. I think there is ample evidence at the surface only to have this kind of suspicion.

Occam's Razor continues to be that the orange pedophile simply did not want those pesky Epstein files out

[–] ragepaw@lemmy.ca 41 points 1 week ago (9 children)

If we were to apply Occam's Razor fully it would be.

A doddering old imbecile that has had a clear mental decline and has a history of terrible decisions is continuing to be in mental decline and make terrible decisions.

[–] BooBees@fedinsfw.app 10 points 1 week ago

Absolutely. Occam’s razor would be his Wharton professor was right, he’s the “dumbest goddamn student he had ever” and he absolutely believed tariffs were magical weapons to both make the economy strong and enrich himself, that he was invincible and immune to repercussions per usual re Epstein, and that as usual he could use sociopathic vengeance and corruption to just fake it the entire way to being the greatest president in history, and that the nation would probably not only put his face on Mr Rushmore, but also make him king willingly.

[–] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, before 2016, he said he was going to run the government like one of his businesses. Then he started to run it like one of his businesses. Now it's running like one of his businesses. I think that's the most parsimonious explanation.

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

I still remember people telling me the country needed Trump because it needed to be run like one of his businesses. "You mean used as a half-assed vehicle for his own vanity that gets stripped for parts and then driven into bankruptcy the moment he loses interest?"

Seriously, the man failed to sell alcohol, meat, and gambling. Those have been three of the four easiest things to turn a profit on for most of human history (and he doesn't have the body for the fourth). If you gave me a distillery, a beef farm, and a casino, I would be a millionaire inside a couple of years---and I'm the worst salesman I know. And somehow he also became a millionaire after starting all three of those businesses, which is decidedly less of a flex for someone who started out as a billionaire.

I don't think it has to be either/or. The buffoon is running a circus, but his administration is trying to install themselves in permanent control of everything

[–] impairedimperator@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I don't think it's the entire goal, but I do think that it is a goal of certain people in this admin. I think Steven Miran's section in project 2025 outlined a way to crash the value of the USD.

And it's definitely for the purpose of creating company scrip.

[–] folekaule@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

I had very similar thoughts, but I think now that's is just old fashioned greed and they're doing all they can to collect as much money as possible. They don't care if the American economy crashes because they're not depending on it. A lot of useful idiots are sucked into the maelstrom and will suffer with the rest of us, but the insanely rich will be fine.

It's also not just one thing. Some may want to bury the Epstein files, but the rest of them just want to be insanely rich. Everyone has a different reason to be in on the grift. And they do it because they believe they can get away with it. I don't think it's much more complicated than that.

Dedollarization of the global economy was a component of project 2025

[–] bedifferent@mastodon.social 8 points 1 week ago (10 children)

@MajinBlayze @tacoplease If I heard or read that, I've forgotten. However, I've been following the economy for a long time (parent was economist). I've been waiting for the dollar to be trashed by the evil out there and turned into rubles. Can't have a strong dollar when democracy is being killed off.

Now just imagine if Biden did or said this. Or Obama, or Hilary. The right would have a full on meltdown and a J6 everyday.

[–] bluefootedbooby@sopuli.xyz 13 points 1 week ago (7 children)

Where is the left's meltdown and J6 then? Why you guys so docile?

[–] Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 week ago

Too many view it as "too radical" cause it'll interrupt brunch.

"No, I love it – the numbers were great," Trump said. "You know what I really love? I love the inflation. You know why? Because as soon as this war is over, you know, I can say it now, something you didn't know. You know, we've been taking out millions of barrels of oil, nobody knows it. You know who doesn't know about it? Iran, until right now we took out the other night 22 ships late at night with no lights because they don't have any radar because we blasted the crap out of it. We took out, that's why oil is $85 a barrel."

This is an all-time Trump quote. A masterclass in narcissistic dementia rambling. Someone put it on a pillow.

He also raped and killed kids and their mothers on purpose. He loves fucking kids, as stated in the TRUMP-EPSTEIN FILES (TM).

It's a strategy only great minds like his can grasp.

Would that not qualify as treason? Did he just admit to intentionally levying a war that is purposely against the American people? Adhering to the enemy, giving them aid?

Asking for a friend.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 9 points 1 week ago

The Treason Ship sailed on January 6, 2021. We don't have to grasp for Treason, it's already well-established.

Get ready for all the magamushferbrainz to start saying how inflation is good for us and they looooove high gas prices.

He's under 30% approval? Just who are the remaining 20-some percent of people that think he's doing good on the economy?

Look, I get why the centimillionaires, billionaires, and centibillionaires would support Republican policies. They stand to make buckets more.

But if you are not in that stratosphere, why would you think he's doing you any favors?

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He's not under 30 percent, it's 35 at the lowest. The evangelicals are solid behind him, as they expect him to help bring about the rapture, where the world gets drowned in lakes of blood and fire. Not joking. Here is the polling.

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-approval-drops-35-republican-support-softens-reutersipsos-poll-finds-2026-05-19/

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Sorry, I was talking about the polling on the economy, where he hit 29% approval this week:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/economy/trump-s-net-approval-rating-hits-all-time-low-on-key-issue-as-americans-worry/ar-AA25dldw

Given that, yes, a certain type of smoothbrain will support Republicans no matter what - as you point out - that's an abysmally low number. The bottom 20% or so are probably just simply unreachable. Remember what Nixon's numbers were even as he hopped on a helicopter after resigning in disgrace and failure.

[–] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yeah, you're right. Nixon was still right around 30% or so as he was leaving.

There are so many people that think zero is the bottom floor on any government or leadership approval poll, but it's not. There are always going to be somewhere between 20-30% of diehards that will claim support even as dear leader is hiding in a bunker from consequences. Nixon's 30% -- "but that's almost a whole third!" -- was actually rock bottom. Even Pol Pot could get 30%, and I have no doubt Hitler could as well. That's the actual floor, not zero.

You really can't point this out enough.

[–] 100@fedia.io 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

feels like 30% of population everywhere votes for money stealing fascists just because they promise to fuck over someone else

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

Yes. Yes he is this stupid. Once you get over the incredulity that nobody could be like this, just skip to the end and know that a self serving, idiot narcissist can do this and worse.

[–] ZMoney@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I'm 5 months behind on my podcasts so I'm now listening to all the coverage and analysis of the Maduro kidnapping. Everybody was saying that with how cheap oil is, it doesn't make sense to try to take Venezuelan oil which is heavy and requires a lot of refinement. In that context shutting down the Strait of Hormuz makes perfect sense.

[–] whoisearth@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I also listen to a lot of politics and it amazes me to this day the consensus is not he's a fucking idiot but in the context of he is Putin's puppet and the goal is to destroy America and the Western Alliance he's doing what he's meant to do.

The problem is very smart people like Dr. Janice Stein are quick to say there's sure as shit smoke but we don't factually know what the deal is with Trump and Putin but we all know something is there

Has this story made it to OAN news, NewsMax, and similar? The people who need to hear it are the people who voted for him.

[–] YurkshireLad@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They already claim they’ll suffer for the “greater good”. Otherwise known as, “I’ll suffer but I won’t admit I was wrong”.

[–] doc@fedia.io 9 points 1 week ago

"He said it would be tough. Trust the process."

Heard this a lot already.

It looks like they're not reporting on it yet, if they ever will. I did see an article about how he's "containing" the inflation the democrats created. I don't think this is an audience that will check primary sources, so their media outlets can pretty much say whatever they want as long as it confirms the audience's assumptions.

Of course he loves it. It reduces the effective value of his debts.

Just wait, you haven't seen anything yet, it's going to get a whole lot more stupid.
