If you are here asking: "Is this a science meme?"

Probably, yes. We use the Dawkins definition of meme: a replicating idea, not just an image macro with a fact on it. A good post here doesn't need to teach you something. It needs to make you ask something: who, what, where, when, and especially why or how.

Science isn't a filing cabinet of facts, it's a conversation. For example, a photo of an eel or other localized wildlife counts because most people never see one, and wonder is the first step of inquiry. A car meme counts if it makes you curious about what's under the bonnet. If you want to talk about something you noticed in the world, chances are someone else wants to talk about it too.

We moderate for vibe, not category. Pruning is light, especially where a post creates interesting discussion. Experimenting is encouraged.

See the pinned paper on Shitposting as Public Pedagogy if you want the academic case for why this works.

Try reading, it's not that difficult. My last comment was in jest.

I’m pretty sure it’s JG Wentworth

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Look in the bottom left, there's a compass.

It literally spells out GORE

Looks like Chile.

What does the G E R O stand for in the compass rose? Gorth, East, Routh, Oest? I have 15 years of naval experience, I updated countless nautical charts, but I've never seen these letters.

Also, why are people saying it's a certain US state, while as a European I can clearly see it's not?

Map is made by "W. L. Gore & Associates", so compass says G O R E

Checks out. Thanks

I would have chosen a closwise reading direction instead of counter clockwise. But that's me.

is this italy?

The blue/green sides with brown/green middle was certainly a choice of colours, not surprised about all the map jokes.

The map resemblance is very clearly intentional. Theres a 'compass' with the publishers name and road signs all over the blood vessels

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 1 points 4 weeks ago

Yes I see it now haha.

Why the bidirectional veins?!

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 weeks ago

As long as it's consensual it's no business of mine.
