Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

“Incompetence and unprofessionalism in the new management have wreaked havoc,” Pelley said in a statement, referring in part to CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss.

Pelley’s exit deepens the turmoil at “60 Minutes,” the leading newsmagazine on American television. In recent months, “60 Minutes” employees have clashed with CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss over the show’s editorial direction under its new corporate owner, Paramount Skydance, the media company run by technology scion David Ellison.

The tension reached a fever pitch Monday during a “60 Minutes” staff meeting designed to introduce employees to Bilton, a technology journalist tapped by Weiss to be executive producer of the program. Pelley laced into Bilton, according to an audio recording obtained by NBC News and a source who was in the room.

Bari Weiss is doing her job of sticking up for Israel at all costs

Ellison, whose Skydance Media took over Paramount in an $8 billion merger, looks set to expand his media empire with a $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of CNN and HBO. The deal still needs sign-off from federal regulators.

What the monopoly? This fuckhead needs to be stopped.

CBS proves Scott Pelley right.

Jesus fucking Christ. He accused them of murdering 60 minutes, so they shank him while everybody’s watching - for insubordination. These hideous goblins want you to be afraid of them because they “don’t fuck around,” but really all they’re doing is permanently destroying anyone’s respect for them.

They are also killing a respected institution and treating its corpse as a marionette.

Nah. All this is, is sabotage of dissent.

We are in an information war right now. And losing.

US TV used to mock Soviet Russia about this.

60 Minutes is dead. The other presenters (and writers, etc who don't agree with new mgmt) should quit now if they have any principles and self-respect. Besides they're old and rich, why would they want to stay on anyway? Show some solidarity/integrity.

CBS and paramount is dead. Just wait for the first nazi star trek. Its coming. Full of big boobs and mini skirts with a lot of evil brown aliens.

Roddenberry tried to bring it back in TNG. Reviews were... mixed.

Pelley did not mention Weiss or Bilton by name in his lengthy written statement about his firing. But he said “new management” had instructed him to “inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story” and told him to report unverified assertions.

Paramount and CBS can suck it. I’m a Trekkie but it looks like I won’t be watching my favorite Star Trek shows for the foreseeable future.

[–] QuantumSparkles@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 hours ago

I’ve watched all of Strange New Worlds so far but I’ve never once given CBS money over it

[–] redsand@infosec.pub 5 points 1 day ago

Your local library will get every season on bluray if they don't already have it just ask. Or download any of the many better than stream quality rips.

Take this. Stay low. You'll know when we're clear.

A VPN lets you see how well supported the de-Paramount trek fans are. Try it, the waters of the high seas are waiting.

[–] mracton@piefed.social 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I’ve been a Drag Race fan from the beginning, but I stopped watching any of the programming since the Paramount/Skydance merger. With the next merger I’m going to have to VPN into Canada or 🏴‍☠️ the next season of Heated Rivalry.

[–] CorrectAlias@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wait, is WoW owned by paramount now?

[–] mracton@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not ownership of WoW, but all the US programs and maybe UK/Canada are exclusive to Paramount+ at least as a first run, barring any recent changes I don’t know about.

Ah, got it. That's at least better than what I thought, but still not great.

it looks like I won’t be watching my favorite Star Trek shows for the foreseeable future.

Because no one else is.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I resent the fact that they referred to that trust fund baby as a technology scion. He's a technology scion in the same way a 16 year old is a race car driver after his dad bought him a Corvette.

[–] msfroh@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago

It doesn't imply that he's technical. The Merriam-Webster definition of scion being used here is "a descendant of a wealthy, aristocratic, or influential family".

His family is wealthy because of technology (Oracle) and he's the descendant.

Zionists and magats don’t want real journalism

[–] robomuffin79@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He should consider himself lucky Weiss didn’t sic the IDF on him

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago

Retaliatory firing seems right on-brand.

Make sure the Wikipedia article describes the causes of the death of 60 Minutes accurately in its ~60th year.

Recorded footage of the event:

Bari Weiss: And another thing - you're fired! And that's official!

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

He couldn't have more kids, because of his semen.

[–] mlg@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I like how the moment CBS got bought out, it started showing up every 5 seconds on my youtube feed because they obviously chucked money into making sure people still view it as some quality news channel and want to exemplify that nothing changed.
