Pigeon mode. Time to shit on someone you don't like

I had to do this once. Once. I don't give a damn that the harness is good and totally will support my weight; I can still dangle around and smack into the damn tower I am tethered to. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Shit's crazy that it can be totally windless at the base, but once you're up halfway or so, it gets real windy. The only fun thing about the job that day was the tower we were installing equipment to was part of an old radio station, and inside the radio station building had all this super old ass radio equipment and we were fucking around with it pretending to be on the air.

That's one hell of a spot to put the shitter.

I love heights. I'd be all over this.

Could not handle tower climbing. My hands are getting sweaty just looking at this picture.

Didn't even realize mine were too until you said something.

I watched a video yesterday of someone climbing down a high rise on a tether to work on an A/C unit. Even seeing all the steps in protection and redundant safety measures. Nope. Not me.

Then there was one long ago I saw of a guy doing maintenance on a radio tower. Climbed up the interior ladder most of the way, then got on the outside to get to the part he was checking. At one point he had to disconnect and reconnect his safety line because of stuff in the way. NOPE.

Watch this video of Britain's most famous steeplejack, Fred Dibnah, erecting a scaffold on a 200ft chimney without any kind of safety line, in 1982:

And they tell me I'm nuts.

At one point he had to disconnect and reconnect his safety line because of stuff in the way.

This is why you need to wear two lines.

Parachute might from that height..

I've always said I'm not afraid of heights, but a climb like that might challenge my stance on that I think.

Edit: spelling

That was a TV tower on the Midwest plains and truly horrifying... The bit about the weather..

I believe This is the video you saw.

Not that video, but I remember another one from a little more than a decade ago where the guy was talking the entire time, explaining the process (and joking at one point about how only the new guys constantly used both safety hooks because it doubled or tripled the time of the work). Then you realize that there was another fella climbing with him when they get up on the little platform.

[โ€“] Rhaedas@fedia.io 4 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe. Thank you. Nightmares now unlocked again.

[โ€“] hateisreality@lemmy.world 4 points 12 hours ago

They're our nightmares now

I thought this would be about the 2022 movie "Fall." Quite haunting, that one...

All of a sudden there is a strong need to pee

[โ€“] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 14 points 14 hours ago

That's not a problem for you.

For those on the ground however....

[โ€“] Twinklebreeze@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

As a tree climber this looks nice. I'd love to scale a tower.

[โ€“] Suck_on_my_Presence@lemmy.world 8 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Gosh, I'll bet the breeze up there after climbing feels heavenly. Utter bliss

[โ€“] Krusty@quokk.au 2 points 11 hours ago

I fucking hate PIM!

[โ€“] hereiamagain@sh.itjust.works 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I love tower climbing. I do it as a hobby, not for work. But I considered a career in climbing when I was younger.

Can I have your stereo when - I mean, if - anything happens?
