Both sides get paid by the same billionaires.

[–] iocase@lemmy.zip 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They're also part of the same class. Their party color and public beliefs are just like clothing. Trump wanted to run as a democrat but they wouldn't have him, so he went Republican.

[–] YoureHotCupCake@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Yup they know what class they are in while we've got poor people thinking they share that class for some reason.

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Bingpot! Do you think campaign finance reform might help?

Repeal Citizens United

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You can't repeal Citizen's United, as it is not a piece of legislation.

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

You're right, "repeal" is the wrong word but the right concept. The Citizens United ruling could be reversed by another Supreme Court ruling, or made moot on a state-by-state basis like Hawaii's approach.

Or a national legislation, sure. Or an end run by an activist FEC. Or, or, or...

I don't see a coalition of politicians ready to do this. Even the Hawaii case is heavily overstated, as its DOA in the courts. Like, I love to see the attempt, but I'm not bullish on the governor standing ground.

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

We'll have to see how Hawaii plays out - if it actually does get overruled then that becomes a valid argument, but simply dismissing as "DOA in the courts" isn't.

if it actually does get overruled then that becomes a valid argument

I'm just waiting to see if it gets enforced at all.

We literally just kicked Orban out of Hungary by voting

[–] YoureHotCupCake@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Why didn't you arrest him?

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Merrick Garland Face

[–] Krono@lemmy.today 10 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Now are Hungary's liberals fighting back, reforming the system, and undoing the damage that Orban has caused?

Seems to me like Hungary is following the meme perfectly. TISZA is going to do some tepid, pro-democracy, center-right reforms. Over time the voting public will become disillusioned with the lack of progress, then you're just one economic crisis away from electing the next Orban.

on the menu

This will allow the new government—if desired—to change the Hungarian constitution

Nothing else in the article mentions constitutional reform

Missing are the crucial steps after say vote

  • "tell leftists what they want can't ever exist"
  • "block what they want or whatever they try, rhetorically and literally"
  • "then blame leftists for all this"
[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Trump is actually a karmic punishment for not clapping for Jeb Bush

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Which is funny because the "please clap" clip exists because Jeb's audience was clapping too much and interrupting him.

Vote for harm reduction, get harmed still. Wonder why you're being harmed, do the same thing again.

[–] molten@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

What are you doing that's more effective? I'd like to join in.

[–] molten@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Are you... participating in those ways? Or are we all the meme about being all talk? I'm pretty active in my community but most people who post this kind of stuff don't do much more than complain, eat hot chip, and be hypocrites in my experience. Which is fine I guess.

[–] Krono@lemmy.today 8 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Can you explain how being "active in the community" will lead to reform in our broken healthcare system?

My life was destroyed by medical bankruptcy. That was 15 years ago, and I have not financially recovered. How can we save others from suffering this same fate?

Luigi was one person, and he did more to change the system than every community group. He sacrificed himself to save lives. We need more heroes like Luigi.

My local DSA is actually really active in raising money to pay off people's medical debt. It's not comprehensive reform, but it's something.

And then we complain when a psychotic parasite calls us Goyim

The money-people LOVE you thinking liberals are gutless and both parties are the same, because then you don't think about the real problem, that getting elected to major office today without sucking the dicks of corporations is nearly impossible.

Repeal Citizens United.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

No they don't. They love you to believe the opposition party - which they control - is a desirable alternative to the incumbents, because this allows them to impose discipline over both party organs.

[–] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

BoTh PaRtIeS aren't the same... but they are both anti-labor and pro-corp.

Otherwise, they're for sale. Depending on what you'd like, one could cost you more than the other. Many are making millions using their office... openly. Imagine what is not reported.

Independents are now over 40% of registered voters... Ds and Rs are dipping below 30% each.

The real problem is that capitalism is unstable/unsustainable. Liberals maintain it. Conservatives use its instability to enrich themselves at everyone else's expense.

[–] Bo7a@piefed.ca 6 points 4 days ago (4 children)

Ok so let's try an experiment. Where on the circle are you? And what are you doing to put brakes on the fascists?

Oh, nothing? Yeah... We know.
