But sometimes, it just does that for the last time

[–] lennee@lemmy.world 46 points 2 days ago (1 children)

yeah but not this time... i hope

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The last time it did that was not the last time. I can confirm.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 33 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Every time it has happened hasn't been the last time, so statistically it's guaranteed to always be nothing, right?

[–] boydster@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 days ago

I plan on continuing to live forever from the day I was born, and so far, I'm on track!

It's worked for me so far, so yeah I'd say so 👍

[–] chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Statistically, the guarantee there will be a "last time" means that every time it isn't the "last time" your chance of the next one being the "last time" increase... So, you know, don't freak out or anything because that increases the chances of the next time happening sooner.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

The number of times it is going happen is constantly going down.

The mild chest pain causes anxiety, which causes more chest pain, which causes more anxiety, which causes more chest pain, which causes more anxiety, and on and on until full blown panic attack and the whole time it feels like you’re dying

It’s great :)

[–] Canonical_Warlock@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

A friend of my dads had a similar issue but it was caused by his internal defibrillator. The new ones are supposed to be better but back in the day aparently internal defibrillators kicked hard when they went off and this guy dreaded it every time which would cause him to panic until his heart rate spiked enough to set it off. He would feel his heart starting to speed up and he would start getting anxious about the defib going off which would make his heart rate spike more which would make him more anxious and that cycle would continue until the defib went off and basically hard reset him.

He took "have you tried turning it off and on again?" too seriously

Oh hey, been there before.

[–] mechoman444@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

And you've convinced yourself you're having a heart attack.

It's a wonderful experience.

[–] tanteregenbogen@piefed.eurocomsocial.de 3 points 2 days ago (10 children)

Been there too. It sucks. Luckily now I have stuff that helps me.

Is it more coffee? I think the answer is more coffee.

Ok so other people have this ? I thought it was just me, and it stresses me out when it happens, which leads to more of these weird sting like sensations..

It feels good to know we're not alone. Have a good day everyone.

[–] davetortoise@reddthat.com 6 points 1 day ago

If you have recurring slight chest pain, it is by far most likely to be harmless, but you lose very little by getting it checked out, in contrast to potentially losing everything by not getting it checked out. Don't worry, but don't ignore it!

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 27 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Luckily I'm aware mine is from arthritis in my sternum.

Unluckily, I have arthritis in my sternum.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I had no idea that was even possible!

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 11 points 2 days ago

Yeah, where your ribs attach is technically a joint. I had a fall as a kid that tore all kinds of shit in my chest, and 15 years later it started flaring up occasionally.

[–] OrteilGenou@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago

One of my colleagues had an issue with a pectoral muscle that caused it to cramp often. He would massage it when it cramped up. Purely a physical issue with the muscle. One day he caused a minor stir in the cafeteria at a client site as he grimaced and clenched his chest. My colleagues and I had some explaining to do, since by all appearances there were three people telling a person in cardiac distress that he should just rub some tiger balm on it and suck it up, like a man.

oh fun! a new thing i can describe to doctors and they can note down as 🤷

[–] Shrubbery@piefed.social 8 points 2 days ago

Treatment is typically reassurance

Translation: "Have a cup of cement and harden up."

Just muscles / tendons / organs getting a little tangled usually

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If it were serious, I'd know. There's no reason to get everyone worried over literally nothing. It barely even stopped beating.

[–] turtlesareneat@piefed.ca 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Floating up towards a white light and seeing your ancestors is a common symptom of gas

Could be prangnetcy

Chest pain kicks in: Oh fuck today's the day, aaarrrrgh--

Chest pain subsides: Oh. Well then. finishes my Monster and gets back to work

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This happens for me because of trapped gas. Try getting up, doing some stretches.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think this is sometimes the cause for me too.

[–] AWistfulNihilist@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I would get on a regular antacid and see if that helps. As I age my acid reflux has been morphing into gerd and the generalized chest pain is random and terrifying but solvable with some tums.

[–] faultyproboscus@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As someone who used to have acid reflux that was morphing into GERD, changing my diet completely eliminated it. Low-carb works for me- also I'm mildly allergic to clove.

I guess this post is more for anyone else reading - if you have acid reflux, try figuring out which foods give you acid reflux first. It may require a radical change in diet. If you've done that and still have acid reflux, then take the medication.

[–] AWistfulNihilist@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

That's the real problem, I like not having to worry about what I'm eating or drinking more than I'm discomforted by the results, I'm sure that balance will change at some point.

[–] Asafum@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Been me for the last few days tbh. It feels like I'm on the cusp of having a panic attack, but it doesn't come full on.

Just so happened to have a dr appointment the other day already lined up and everything checked out ok so idk. It just does that sometimes I guess lol

[–] Test_Tickles@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Could be a muscle sprain, muscle cramps, anxiety, gas, allergic reaction (hives), inflamed bowel (when my appendix tried to kill me, I didn't feel any pain in my side, the only thing I felt was pain up under my sternum, like severe heartburn, due to my appendix inflamming my bowels), kidney problems, poison, forbidden love, voodoo dolls, and giving love a bad name.

[–] AstralPath@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago

"Angine de Poitrine" do be like that.

I love that they named their band after chest pain. Lmfao

[–] mechoman444@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I have two herniated discs in my neck which replicate the symptoms of a heart attack. I'm told it's superficial. 🤷

It's not just one thing.

Moods can affect the heart directly.

Even heart defects can be felt decades before they get serious.

Or could be something from the sound spine that feels like it's from the chest?

[–] WagnasT@piefed.world 4 points 2 days ago

Costochondritis acting up means it's about to rain

[–] davidgro@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Don't forget the side one, also just happens.

[–] Johnmannesca@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Feeling a mix of the last two in my cranky panky
