This is the price you must pay for allowing Putin to live.

If russia does not find a way to end the war soon we are going to see one of the most thorough and embarassing obliterations of a land army and its associated war machine the world has ever seen.

Russia isn't just losing now, they are sprinting down a dead end alleyway with their eyes closed.

When Soviet Union fell it also was very slow at start, took several years, but then the house of cards started to fall down. Wikipedia cites 'decline and collapse' of Soviet union between 1988 - 1991 and the final downfall happened almost overnight. Situation today has a lot of similar patterns, so I'm keeping my hopes up that the history will repeat itself and that Ukraine and ukrainians can withstand the horrors a bit more.

Don’t forget how former tzar was ousted from power. At WWI army was beat, hungry, starving and fed up with war, they decided to make ceasefire with enemies and go home, where they made a revolution. Something I want to see this time too.

And then, things got worse

It truly is the Russian tradition.

I’m never sure what to think of these videos. How reliable are the sources? Like I don’t speak Russian, and I honestly can’t even tell if it’s a deepfake or not.

Any suggestions on how to validate these?

The video is real, and the translation is okay, but the source of his claims is gossips.

[–] lauha@lemmy.world 9 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, but those gossips, once they become large enough, is what'll get the people moving finally

[–] altkey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 weeks ago

I share your hope something will.

My 50 cents on this as an Ukrainian.

Its likely not an AI cause it's way cheaper to just take a random Ukrainian and write such a video, most of us have flawless russian language skills and only a few details can give you up. Its isn't a real-time steam so you can work on eliminating that.

Now even if it's not a Ukrainian psyop. There are hundreds of millions of russians, surely there could be one that rants on camera. And the message here, well, it's not very pro-Ukrainian too, it's their favourite brand of "small men" apolitical survivalist, that would eat bark from the trees but won't even think to riot. If this is a genuine video, he isn't smart (in his own survivalist paradigm), as he just exposed himself with zero gains.

So the only useful bits from this video is the depression, and acceptance that their empire is losing it, and antimilitarist message. Maybe depression is a good thing short-term, as it strains already crumbling economy (people who enter survival mode don't spend), but a single emotion can't last forever. It comes and goes in waves.

Let's just hope they won't have a good reason to celebrate then the wave goes off.

Not and AI. Background has continuity that you can't get with AI. Buildings in the back should have features appearing and disappearing when covered by his head.

...and yes. Much easier to hire a fluent speaker.

I made a custom program to add subtitles. If you run the video through Gemini or ChatGPT it should give you a nearly identical translation.

As for the video being AI, even though it looks like a simple clip, it would be very difficult and expensive to replicate this video for a few reasons, but mainly the background.

Thanks @LaFinlandia@sopuli.xyz - I appreciate your work and I follow the content you post here closely. I have no reason to believe that you share anything malicious.

However, you’re an anonymous stranger on the internet to me, and reason suggests that I should double-check my sources. You know the space way better that I do: Do you know of a media outlet that verifies these kinds of videos where I could find journalistic validation?

[–] LaFinlandia@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 month ago

They have an archive that contains a lot of background information on each video.

But don't blame Fearless Leader Putin! /s

[–] snowdrop@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

All the ads I get on Reddit are to join the US military. Oligarchs playing divide and conquer.

[–] zabadoh@ani.social 2 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Military or Customs Border Patrol, i.e. ICE?

They're not the same thing.

I see a lot of ads for the latter

Why are you still on Reddit
