Summit, by far. Voyager gets a lot of recommendations but it's not nearly as slick.

[–] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 2 points 21 hours ago

Used to love jerboa but stopped working for me. I think is because of my instance. I use photon now, it's ok.

Me too, lack some features I like from other apps like Boost, like ability to block people/communities from the homepage but still the best overall.

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You can, long hold the username or community and a quick menu appears.

[–] mrfriki@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wow, thank you! Been using Voyager on both my tablet and phone pretty much since day one and only now learn about it.

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Yea, I only found out about it a month or so ago.

[–] gwl@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

Waterfox, it's a fork of Firefox with no AI slop.

You don't need an app, just open it in browser.

Big fan of Thunder app. Great FOSS option and has tons of customization options!

https://github.com/thunder-app/thunder

[–] kionay@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

honestly Thunder doesn't get enough love in posts like these. you often expect FOSS apps to not be very good, but I can't imagine using anything other than Thunder at this point

[–] mysticpickle@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

Could not agree more! Thunder is actually better experience than some of the paid apps I used for Reddit... You know when they still had an option for a non-shit tier mobile experience 😬

[–] Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago

I've only used Jeroba. It works great for me, but with the google garbage going on, Im going to have to root my phone to sideload? I guess? So. thats my summer plan.

[–] Keshara@piefed.blahaj.zone 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not sure if it's available on F-Droid or not, but I've been using Summit lately and absolutely loving it. Blorp was my previous favourite, but I prefer the bit more modern and clean UI of Summit.

I did try Jerboa about a year ago when I first tried Lemmy, but quickly dropped it due to UI/UX issues I was experiencing at the time, but I would personally just stick with Blorp if it was between them.

Voyager was another I tried previously. Earlier I tried on my other phone (HMD Skyline) and consistently had performance issues with the app (long load times, occasional crashing, janky scroll). When I got my S25 I thought this would be solved with the more powerful device, and while it was much better than before, I still had performance issues.

Hope this helps a little!

[–] moseschrute@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Blorp dev here. Just out of curiosity did you not see the same performance issues (e.g. scroll) with Blorp that you saw with voyager? I’m using similar technologies to voyager, so this would be helpful in informing future decisions I make.

[–] Keshara@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

Hi! No not at all, at least for me on both devices (Skyline and S25) Blorp ran great! If I get bored of Summit I'll immediately return to Blorp ☺️

[–] farbidden_lands@quokk.au 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (1 children)
  1. Summit
  2. Blorp
  3. Voyager
  4. Thunder / Interstellar
  5. Jerboa

Ranking is based on personal preferences.

[–] moseschrute@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Blorp dev here. What I can I do to bring Blorp to the top of the list in your opinion?

[–] farbidden_lands@quokk.au 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Hi @moseschrute@lemmy.world. Blorp is equal to summit in features and ui—sometimes even ahead. For example emoji reactions and image loading speed, swiping image posts etc.

And I have both on my phone and keep switching between them.

The main reason I prefer summit is because the ui is very snappy on my phone. There's no lag or skipped frames during animations or after clicking a button.

One issue I had with blorp is: when you click on a lemmy link summit opens it inside the app itself but blorp opens it in the browser. It breaks the flow and I can't interact with it because I'm not logged in there. Hope that made sense.

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

As a former RIF user, I haven't found anything better than Jerboa. Which is shame because it will never support piefed.

[–] wjs018@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago

Also a former big fan of RIF and I found Boost a fairly easy transition.

[–] Mantzy81@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago

I'm using Boost (and Vger but preferred Boost from Reddit days too). I got used to Infinity on Reddit after Boost ended and wish they'd make a Lemmy version of that now.

[–] Userohnenamen@piefed.social 8 points 1 day ago

I used jerboa for a long time and liked it a lot. But it is optimized "just" for lemmy. It cant operate (in my experience) with piefed instances.

if you want to use lemmy and piefed for example, Interstellar is a better solution.

[–] magitian@programming.dev 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Summit's an easy recommendation.

[–] mecen@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is summit foss?

[–] magitian@programming.dev 3 points 22 hours ago

AGPL3.0, according to this repo.

[–] Aequitas@feddit.org 7 points 1 day ago

Boost for Lemmy. I love it.

[–] Skanky@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Summit is absolutely wonderful

[–] Humanius@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I use Thunder, and I am very happy with it generally.
I used to use (and paid for) Sync for Lemmy previously, but I had the impression bugs didn't get fixed, so I switched away from them.

[–] Deadeyegai@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

I bounce between Boost & Voyager. Will be checking out Blorp myself, thanks!

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Boost while not perfect has very few flaws for me. Whenever I receive a DM I have to go the web interface to get the notification to go away though. But that's the worst of it

I also recommend Boost. Slick ui, very user friendly

[–] remon@ani.social 7 points 1 day ago

I like connect, it resembles my old app I used for Reddit

[–] asudox@lemmy.asudox.dev 2 points 1 day ago

I use Summit.

[–] killea@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I've been using interstellar (alexandrite on desktop) for some time and rather like it. Nice clean and useful UI, a bit buggy at times. Only other one I tried was voyager but wasn't a huge fan.

[–] StillAlive@piefed.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I like Blorp but it could do with showing parent comment while replying.

[–] mecen@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Yeah I'm asking for other app mainly for this reason.

[–] moseschrute@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Blorp dev here. What if I fix this in the next release? Would that convince you to stick around?

Edit: spelling

[–] moseschrute@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] mecen@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Looks good but have you considered something like reddit bubble, you can scroll all replies without closing editor. I like Blorp better but reddit bubble is very convenient.

Also when there is draft comment, if not troublesome add some indicator that there is draft on reply button.

At first I was surprised when I used Blorp how to reply for main post and took me embarrassingly log to figure out you write it on bottom, suggestion add also reply button to post similar to when you reply to comment.

[–] bricked@feddit.org 0 points 1 day ago

I use Raccoon because it's open source and implements Material Design

[–] Exusia@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Jerboa. It was the first one I found working and installed, and didn't see a reason to change unless it stops working - like RiF before it. If it aint broke why switch.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 1 points 1 day ago

I use Fennec. Works great.

[–] feannag@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Another vote for Summit. Does everything I need it to and more, and has a very active developer. It's available on the play store but I get it from github via Obtainium. https://github.com/idunnololz/summit-for-lemmy

[–] mecen@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

[–] feannag@sh.itjust.works 1 points 20 hours ago

Yes! I linked the android release page, here is the source github https://github.com/idunnololz/summit

Licensed under AGPL-3.0

[–] zxqwas@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I use connect. No other reason than it's the first I tried and I've not been annoyed enough to switch.
