the controller looks good i hope it's better than the other controllers you can get for a good price. also, i wish they would make more steam decks but i think valve said that they ain't gonna make any more witch sucks because i wanted to buy one so i can play my steam games on the go

[โ€“] AnimalsDream@slrpnk.net 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

There are things I like, and dislike, about the Steam Deck controls. The things I dislike are bad enough to kind of ruin the experience for me, and I'll usually switch to an external controller to play on it.

It looks like Valve may have fixed those issues, but I still feel skeptical, about the dpad in particular.

[โ€“] mlg@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

You mean physically or the software input stuff?

Haven't tried the steam deck, but I grew up on the DS Dpad so anything that can't handle 8 direction input with minimal movement is a complete turn off for me.

14 tons of Steam Controllers appear to have just arrived in the US, hinting at imminent release date

[โ€“] kerrigan778@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Irrelevant but I fucking hate short tons, 12,970kg does not round up to 14 tons, cut that shit out.

I mean, you can just say "thousands of pounds" then, but surely we don't need two different tons.

I really hope they will release the steam frame, but Valve is a valve. ๐Ÿ˜”

[โ€“] 46_and_2@lemmy.world 11 points 23 hours ago (5 children)

Ah, right after I ordered an 8bitDo Ultimate 2C because my OG Steam Controller is disintegrating. At least I hope the new SC doesn't arrive at some ridiculous price in Europe, I'm willing to pay 50-60โ‚ฌ tops.

[โ€“] rabber@lemmy.ca 2 points 11 hours ago

I read it will be 80 USD

[โ€“] Nibodhika@lemmy.world 7 points 22 hours ago

I don't think it's going to be 50-60, it has a lot more features and hardware than other controllers.

[โ€“] echodot@feddit.uk 6 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (2 children)

Isn't that the price of a PS5 controller? Given that it's got a lot of extra features I would expect it to probably be more expensive than that in less valve decide they want to take the hit and make it a lost leader.

[โ€“] SethW@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

hah maybe thats the price of a ps5 controller on black friday

[โ€“] Rooster326@programming.dev 4 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

Why would Valve need to do that?

This controller, and the Steam Machines can be used anywhere including not on Steam, so it doesn't make sense to do this. Especially after Gabe demanding the hardware division stands on its own.

My projection is these will sell like hot cakes, like most things Valve sells.

Probably the only thing out of their new hardware lineup that has any chance of being released in the near future.

[โ€“] Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world 71 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Yeah. Damn shame, but if they released the steam machine or frame at the moment, the price would probably have to be at the point it would ensure the product didn't have a chance to catch on. Pity, I kind of want a steam frame.

I fear the price will put it out of my budget for controllers.

Usually I buy my controllers at around 30-50โ‚ฌ

This, I fear would go well over double the higher end of that.

My wallet fears the answer to this question.

[โ€“] tiramichu@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Me too, but I'm pretty sure I'll be getting one.

I haven't had a VR headset since the original Oculus Rift. I'm still salty about them selling to Meta, and after I moved to Linux it turned into a paperweight anyway.

Since that point, no new headset had checked all the boxes for features, first-class Linux support, and a vendor I could actually tolerate engaging with.

The Steam Frame is doubtless going to seem very expensive in comparison, but I see that as the price I have to pay to avoid an account on a platform I don't want and all the associated data harvesting.

I will pay that price.

[โ€“] Linktank@lemmy.today 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I type these exact words into google about twice a week.

I hope they improved the dpad compared to the one on the Steam Deck. The Deck's dpad feels quite mushy, and the glossy texture doesn't help. I'd love a high quality controller with dual trackpads.

[โ€“] EddoWagt@feddit.nl 10 points 1 day ago

I thought the Deck Dpad was quite well received, the one on the controller looks the same to me

[โ€“] InvalidName2@lemmy.zip 50 points 1 day ago (5 children)

I've been waiting for this controller for a while. Hoping it's even remotely close to my expectations.

I'm so ready to turn the page on the crappy PS4 Pro controller I bought a few years back that developed charging and battery issues and become unreliable. Regardless of what Lemmy trolls want me to believe, I feel like a 2.5 year life span for a premium Sony controller was a rip-off.

I like the fact that the analog sticks are symmetrical in placement (compared to XBOX). So really, I'm just hoping that the batteries and connectors in these are more reliable than the poor quality crap that Sony puts out.

I still hold firm that the first steam controller is GOATed and it only failed because the world wasn't ready for it yet.

[โ€“] Chais@sh.itjust.works 60 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It also failed because they had to stop producing it due to some patent troll.

[โ€“] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 36 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

This. Fuck SCUF and their owners Corsair

Back buttons are an obvious modification kf previous designs; they aren't patentable.

And of course, no link to the unboxing video....fuck these articles!!!

[โ€“] dustyData@lemmy.world 5 points 23 hours ago (3 children)

Because the video it not available. It's a report on the upload of the video to the Steam store database. Probably prep work for the launch announcement day.

Haven't used a controller on a PC, but would be interested in trying this one if it's not ridiculously expensive. I'm predicting a hundred-ish EUR, and if it's around that, I'd give it a go.

[โ€“] echodot@feddit.uk 5 points 22 hours ago (3 children)

I'm mostly just use controllers for playing games which have driving mechanics. Controlling vehicles with just WASD is awful.
