Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Donald Trump has issued his latest threat to Iran and said that if officials fail to make a deal with the United States “the whole country is going to get blown up.”

The president also made threats Sunday morning to target civil infrastructure after it was reported that Iranian forces were refusing to allow ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz this weekend.

[–] skozzii@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 hour ago

I'm tired... when will this end?

[–] 87Six@lemmy.zip 1 points 28 minutes ago (1 children)

Having this guy as your negotiator is like having buggs bunny as the leader of your stealth division

[–] glitchdx@lemmy.world 2 points 23 minutes ago

I get what you're going for, but bugs would do a better job if for no other reason than it would be funny.

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 1 points 38 minutes ago

Either way is a win for Putin.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

That type of salesmanship did not work for his steaks. Can this guy ever learn?

[–] bagsy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

No he can not, he's a fucking idiot with the nuke codes.

[–] itisileclerk@lemmy.world 7 points 5 hours ago

"Stand and deliver" - US is a fucking pirate nation. And the idiots from US Army and US Navy are just common criminals. All of them.

[–] mcv@lemmy.zip 6 points 4 hours ago

Again? Haven't we gone through this already?

[–] tehn00bi@lemmy.world 6 points 4 hours ago

[–] bridgeburner@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago

[–] Embargo@lemmy.zip 6 points 8 hours ago

Everything is a "deal" now.

This is unfortunate.

It's spreading.

This too shall pass.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

I've been saying this for a while now. I'm sick of hearing that word.

[–] LuminousLuddite@lemmy.world 26 points 14 hours ago

He just blew up his diaper.

The question is, will the Secret Service do its duty if he decides to nuke Iran? Because he sounds crazier than ever to me, if any President would, it's him.

Hopefully, an agent will follow their oath to protect the United States from all enemies, foreign and domestic.

[–] btsax@reddthat.com 2 points 2 hours ago

lol the Secret Service is 100% Trump loyalists, just like the military.

[–] Insekticus@aussie.zone 8 points 9 hours ago

Considering the SS paraded the photographers and journalists around Trump when his "ear got shot off," and that crane that slowly lowered the flag down for that infamous picture. I'd say they're all for on board.

[–] stumu415@lemmy.zip 17 points 14 hours ago

US Diplomacy at work ladies and gentlemen.

[–] better_than_god@lemmy.zip 28 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

Again? Didnt he sundown this same tantrum like 3 weeks ago?

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 10 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

According to another article it's all a strategy/fake to make them think he's unstable and just do what he says.

Yeah, Mad Man Theory, which dates back to the Nixon Administration. It's debatable whether it worked back then, and it's definitely not going to work against a theocracy.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Also, when it works it doesn't work long. A stable nation that consistently helps its friends is a far better strategy. Especially as you never have to go it alone when actually threatened.

[–] chronicledmonocle@lemmy.world 13 points 15 hours ago

He already forgot he did this one already from the dementia.

What does he do on sundays that gets him so riled up?

[–] booly@sh.itjust.works 23 points 17 hours ago

I think Sundays is the day when many of his closest advisers take some or all of the day off, so he's just wandering without the distractions that normally keep him busy.

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 17 points 17 hours ago

Spook the market Sunday, spend spend the first half of the week blustering, place Polymarket bets on Thursday, announce the problem is solved and count your profits Friday, golf on Saturday (well, actually every day, but Saturday you don’t have to tweet if you don’t want to).

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 27 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (1 children)

So that relatively small group of soldiers sitting in boats far from shore without adequate food or supplies are going to crush the much larger and entrenched entire Iranian military now huh. Sounds real scary.

One silver lining to all this is that evidently Trump has learned that its harder to attack a mid sized country halfway around the world --without allies-- in challenging terrain -- than it is to attack some unarmed civilians trying to get to work in portland or minneapolis.

Progress of a sort.

[–] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 6 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (1 children)

The soldiers won't do a thing, US Navy-Air Force will toss bombers and missiles; they'll do small special ops too, of course.

I don't think they'll ever use the Army-Marines, too much risk.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

Sounds about right. No armor called up either. They could have activated one for show at least.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 83 points 23 hours ago

One trick pony

[–] TransNeko@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago

can Trump even find Iran on a map? (or anything that isn't child sex slave island)

[–] Smaile@lemmy.ca 3 points 12 hours ago

a child throwing a tantrum.
