Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

Instead of "You didn't do the dishes again", you could also say "Can you please do the dishes?", which gets the same point across without the passive aggressive accusation.

[–] PlantJam@lemmy.world 48 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I've tried rotating and splitting tasks (I do the dishes, then you do the dishes, or I start the dishes then you finish) without much luck. What seems to work well is dividing entire tasks. I do the cooking, dishes, and any outside work, you do the laundry. It works well with our differing schedules and there's no need to keep track of what part of a task someone else has done or not done.

That doesn't fix someone not doing their assigned task, of course.

Yeah, when you live together, on top of being a couple, you're also a team.
You have the common goal to put food on the table and keep the home nice.
Teams work best if you divide up responsibilities, and let each person be fully responsible for their tasks.

If the dishes need to be done, and I have time. I do the dishes.

If my non-platonic roommate notices the dishes need to be done, and they have time, they do the dishes.

Basically, unless it's a pretty complicated task that only one of us is proficient in, whoever is available just does it.

Sure, but you can't just expect people to behave like mature adults. That's fucking ridiculous, come on, now. We need to explore alternative communication methods on Tiktok to find a better solution.

Would not work with me. People's perception of "I have time" is not uniform, so maybe my partner would do the dishes diligently under this system, but I'd always be thinking, "I don't have time" (when in fact I am just not making time).

I need a system, otherwise I will take the piss. Me and my partner have a system, and it's a weight off our minds for the most part.

There’s an entire subset of people who consider any sort of direct criticism, no matter how valid and polite to be a personal attack. β€œCan you please do the dishes” means β€œyou forgot to do the dishes and me reminding you is directly pointing out your failures” and see that as directly calling them a failure. This sort of thing might work on these types, who also tend to be incredibly passive aggressive.

So am I, but we separated last month.
And I'm feeling nothing but relief.

Half of my staff are like this. Miserable.

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

If you want to avoid a confrontation altogether, use an I message.

β€œI would like you to do the dishes.”

Then the ball’s in their court. They can do them or not, but they make their own informed decision.

[–] sefra1@lemmy.zip 103 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That's sounds very passive-aggressive tbh.

"Patrick forgot to do the dishes again"

"Oh, really? Well, maybe Patrick is too busy with his WORK?! You know? Maybe someone else could do the dishes instead."

"Oh, yeah? So maybe Patrick should provide to this house? What does he do again? OH, RIGHT, SELLING CAKES! You know what? I'm gonna quit the CIA coz Patrick's job is soooooo important so I can do the chores instead of him!"

[–] binarytobis@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Took me a second. Much better joke than I thought.

[–] Damaskox@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

If he had a butler, would he call Patrick master? Master Bateman?

[–] Lexam@lemmy.world 21 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

This is unfair to the Patricks of the world!

[–] 48954246@lemmy.world 33 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

And also just really bad relationship advice

[–] FelixCress@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

To fuck someone's brother?

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 weeks ago

Depends. Many men are the brother of someone.

[–] ClownStatue@piefed.social 2 points 3 weeks ago
[–] angrystego@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

In this case someone's own brother.

[–] Rcklsabndn@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Simply break all of the dirty dishes that you didn't generate and keep a clean set hidden for your own use.

No need for all the toxic passive aggressiveness.

In my house we have the Dish Fairy. Its always exciting when she's paid us a visit.

Gotta copy that, thank you!

[–] Randelung@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Is that real? How much backbone is left?

[–] InvalidName2@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 weeks ago

It's Gremlins who cause the chaos in my household. But also, I'd like to find out more about this long lost and formerly unknown brother of mine.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Do everything yourself and be happy if you get any help at all. Just like when you live alone.
