Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

They lost in court and are appealing. I doubt they'll win, but still ignore. The cross-post has a lot more info.

A judge last week struck down the Pentagon’s restrictions on journalists seeking “unauthorized” information, siding with the New York Times in its lawsuit against the government. In response, the Pentagon on Monday added some meaningless window dressing and essentially reissued the same restrictions. The administration pledged to “immediately” appeal the decision on the original policy, and on Tuesday, the Times filed a motion to compel the administration to comply with the judge’s order.

Is this the so called "Land of the free"?

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

Yes, it is the country with the 5th highest incarceration rate on the planet, and the ~~second~~ highest total prison population

"Look guys, the people are really all ate up about this slavery thing...I know, stupid....but anyway, what if we instead allowed slavery as punishment for a crime and then just started locking the poors up?"

"My god man, thats brilliant! Why, if we do that we dont even have to pay for their care ourselves! We can even put that expense on the poor people through taxes, thus increasing the chance that they will end up in jail and be available for slave labor!!"

"Dude, I know!! We wont even be forced to enslave people of a certain color, we'll be able to enslave anyone!!!"

"But what if we dont have enough criminals to leverage?"

"Thats the best part! We make the laws so as long as we always have an easy way to lock people up, we'll have more slaves than we ever had before the 13th amendment got passed!"

"God bless these United States!"

You're missing the asterisk with a footnote saying, "If you're a rich white male."

Freedom ~~of speech~~ to write what we tell you.

[–] IamSparticles@lemmy.zip 39 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This isn't even about what they write. They're trying to stop press from even asking questions they don't want asked. They could just refuse to answer, but apparently that's not enough.

The whole Trump admin should be sentenced to execution for high treason

[–] Blumpkinhead@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Can you imagine how long the line would be of people volunteering for that job?

[–] ClockworkOtter@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

Would cross the Atlantic

[–] ISOmorph@feddit.org 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

You’re pretty lucky that didn’t have a question mark at the end or you’d be in big trouble.

[–] SayJess@lemmy.blahaj.zone 47 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

The fact that we are unsure whether the highest court in the land will defend the constitution from these fragrantly illegal policies, is insane.

There is a guy at work that was trying to say that the west defeated fascism. That it was no longer a thing. A regime by any other name would smell just as rancid. Useful traitors for the regime.

Edit: Leaving the typo, it’s a funny joke.

There is a guy at work that was trying to say that the west defeated fascism.

You should remind him that the west literally invented fascism, and that it never went away.

"Do you have a plan for the war in Iran, sir?"

"TAKE HER STRAIGHT TO JAIL!"

America, everyone. The place I was born... Without choosing, to be clear.

The first amendment doesn't allow this.

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

It also says that Congress must declare war. And yet three thousand people are already dead. And 50,000 are injured.

The first amendment is just (on) a piece of paper. Will it be enforced against a constitution breaking executive? That is the question.

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm sure they'll send a strongly worded letter.

Late stage Weimar Republic vibe.

[–] Decq@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

All fine and dandy, but they just won't invite you to the next press conference anymore.

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

To be frank, I wasn't being invited before.

Not really related to this article but I absolutely despise the penchant for the right to refuse to allow journalists they don't like to attend press conferences.

[–] garretble@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago

The snowflakes were the fascists we made along the way.

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago

It's not just a penchant. It's a play book move in converting a democratic state to a fascist one. Don't be fooled into thinking this is all just social anxiety and tantrums.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 25 points 2 weeks ago

Goddamn snowflakes can’t actually answer a difficult or uncomfortable question because it might hurt their feefees.

Not only are these dumb fucks villains they don't even understand how cartoonishly villainous they look

[–] Jack@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Maybe they do - which is why W and Trump got re-elected.

First amendment authorizes all questions.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 week ago

Why would it be illegal for them to ask questions?

Oh that's right, tyrannical fucking fascism now occupies the entire actual US fucking government. I still can't believe this is really happening right now.

Doesn’t matter, we don’t have a true fourth estate.

[–] DaMummy@hilariouschaos.com 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This isn't how mainstream media works. Not just any reporter can get in the White House press briefing and ask questions. They've been filtered long before they got there. This isn't new to the Trump regime.

Nazis should have no rights.

So they don't want their lies exposed, and they don't want their own constituents to know the actual truth. They are scared that their absolute stupidity will be broadcast for all to see. Every Last American should be embarrassed and ashamed!!
