This is why I worship the Sun. It's actually there and is provably responsible for all life.

[–] FrowingFostek@lemmy.world 17 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Of course you do, you're a space noodle. Whatelse would you worship?

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago (1 children)

the sun might be responssible for life, but the full moon was responsible for getting me laid. (and the wine, and the really nice dinner... and uh. some other stuff.) (it certainly wasn't my ability to flirt.)

[–] bottleofchips@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Just out of interest - apropos of nothing you understand - did it hit your eye like a big pizza pie?

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago

No, that was a moray (eel).

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 7 points 4 days ago (2 children)

But don't pray to it. Pray to Joe Pesci. He gets things done.

[–] Knossos@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

I appreciate the reference. RIP

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

IDK, the Sun is older and meaner.

[–] U7826391786239@piefed.zip 44 points 4 days ago

they left out people killing each other over disagreements about which people who claim to have come from the sky are the "real" people who came from the sky, and which of their descendants are "real" descendants of those people.

religion is so fucking stupid

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 23 points 4 days ago (3 children)

I want to point out another stage: Sexy Post-Religion

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Dayum, I'm hard.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 4 days ago (2 children)

So.. A sexy religion that worships mail carriers? 😛

I prefer the religion dedicated to the worship of the curiour /ref

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 days ago

So a Ghost concert. I'd get onboard with that.

The current incarnation is economics, which filled the control mechanism void vacated by religion after the Enlightenment. A bunch of arbitrary rules, conjured out of thin air by the ruling class, protected from scrutiny, and imposed upon the masses.

  • Churches and cathedrals replaced with banks and financial institutions.
  • Priests and clergy replaced with economists and finance officers.
  • Mythology replaced with finance.
  • God replaced with GDP.

This is not to claim religion and economics shouldn’t play a part in society, they can help with social cohesion and unifying groups for a common goal. My argument is that they should be subservient to the will and needs of the society they exist within, not positioned as their current dictatorial role of casting the societal mould.

[–] stupidcasey@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yes, when you grow up you worship Sol the sun god.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Oh yeah? Prove it!

[–] Pronell@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (2 children)

My journey was:

Wait, there's a ton of religions, most of which think that they're the ones with the one immutable truth?

Then none of them are right, or it would be obvious.

I still spent years with Christian apologia and god-in-the-gaps nonsense but at least my personal moral and religious development was rooted in doubt rather than faith.

Somehow both of my parents were disappointed in my atheism.

[–] Strider@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Of course they were. Otherwise they'd have to admit to believing bullshit all their life.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago

Then none of them are right, or it would be obvious.

Why would it be obvious?

[–] deegeese@sopuli.xyz 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

All these clankers still worship magic rocks.

[–] Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I thought clanker was for Ai? I really like that term for it, a modern version. It dont fit for people. Historically a clanker would be thought of as a broken beat old car, or maybe, some other broken down machinery. no?

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 3 points 3 days ago

I think the word you're looking for is clunker

I was reading a Korean web novel. It was comedy smut tower climbing thing. I picked it up because the pliy sounded ridiculous and I wanted something stupid to read.

There was a mission about resolving a religious war. The main character somehow tricked both sides into thinking they were the decended god.

Both sides worshipped the same god. Dialects and translations changed the name and nobody compared the books because one side was a bunch of fanatics that took the teachings extremely literally. Including something like 99 commandments.

At the very end she blew my mind with some BS they spat about they love all of humanity because everyone is flawed. The commandments are there so you know how flawed you are. They don't force faith because that's not freedom.

I think that's how it should be. I believe in freedom of religion. Anything that brings you peace and makes you a better person.

The issue is always when faith is used to sin. Enforcing your beliefs on others, infringing on thier freedom, taking money/assets. The list goes on.

I'm not an atheist. I'm agnostic.

The webnovel you don't want to read. Just no. Don't do it. It's ridiculous.

I’ve Become an Onahole, But I’ll Still Climb The Tower

Synopsis : A man who was once the strongest in the world...

Betrayed and killed unjustly—only to wake up in a pink female body?!

"Even in this kind of body... I will never give up!!"

Genre : Action, Adult, Adventure, Comedy, Ecchi, Fantasy, Gender Bender, Mature, Psychological, Smut

DM me for a link to download a translated rip if you actually want to read it...

Imo freedom from religion is more important than freedom of religion. When a religion seeks to control people it should not be allowed as part of society anymore.

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

Pls onahole me senpai

[–] Drekaridill@lemmy.wtf 10 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I'm still on step 2. My magic animals demand I feed them.

Same 🤷🏻

[–] osanna@lemmy.vg 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

My catties are my idols.

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

And then "people in the sky but further away" followed by "people from another dimension"

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 0 points 3 days ago

Where does "John Travolta is coming to invade earth in a few hundred years so you have to give me enough money to tell you the entire story of his alien race" fit in?

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 1 points 3 days ago

I used to basically worship my friend for some fucking reason. I really believed he could not fuck up.

Ex-friend. Now my "beliefs" are hard to comprehend even, but center around certain values, that I invoke all the time.

Far more real and practical than sky man ever was.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 3 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Wait... What was the worship of rocks called?

[–] notabot@piefed.social 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Well, what with all that bowing and scraping in front of the holy stones, the smaller stone would sometimes fall off of the big one. That style of worship was thus called "rock and roll".

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 4 points 3 days ago

If rock n roll is a religion, well then, Take me to Church.

[–] Rusty@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Animism is an umbrella term for early religions that worship objects and/or animals.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Doesn't animism pertain to things that are animate, tho? I thought it was worship of living things in particular.

[–] Rusty@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago

I remember a lecture long time ago about history of religion and it mentioned rocks, trees and flowers as examples of animism. But my major was very far from that topic, so don't quote me on that.

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Bottom left corner people are literally astronauts.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Nah, astronauts come TO the sky

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Where do they come from when they touch down?

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Naw, now we’ve cut out the abstraction and worship demagogues directly. :(
