Trump is just the symptom, he is not the disease.

When he leaves office (by hook or by crook) the disease will remain; they have purchased replacements already.

[–] lyralycan@sh.itjust.works 24 points 2 months ago

Like Squid Game -- the billionaires have already chosen a replacement and continuing the operations.

[–] Jarix@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

He is absolutely a disease, he just isn't the only one

That’s a long list of companies I’m not going to fuck with anymore. They can produce whatever they want, doesn’t mean we have to consume it.

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 20 points 2 months ago (15 children)

We are absolutely NOT obligated to consume ANY of that corporatist shit.

Best thing I did was get rid of my TV when I cut the cable back in 1999.

My current TV is a 50" budget "special needs" 4k Hisense I use for gaming. That's it.

Arr 🏴‍☠️

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It won't be hard to avoid. Most of it is going to be lame propaganda that you wouldn't want to watch anyway.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They're also going to go full-on into AI slop, which you likewise won't want to watch.

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The slop is INSANE!

I've been "Do not recommend channel"-ing my youtube feed for the last few weeks., it went off the rails when my brother sent me a link to some "HFY" sci-fi short story.

I had no idea those were all AI content and once I watched part of one.. holy cats, that was it.

Say goodbye to my carefully curated home page.

FUUUUCCK!

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I've been diligently curating mine for about 3-4 months, and it's gotten a lot better. Be sure to keep at it.

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago

Will do!

Good to know I can get things back on track.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

I already don't watch any of them, but now I can have a chip on my shoulder about it. Win/win.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

Consuming it, but not paying them anything for it, is also an option, but I certainly respect avoiding it altogether out of principle.

We really dont talk enough about how Trump and the modern right was made possible by 90s politicians. Those dumbass "new democrats" who basically decided to be Reagan Lite and the Republicans who happily turned the wheel even further right in response.

Pretty remarkable that they control that much and still can't meaningfully control culture.

Have you not noticed the global rise of fascism fueled by billionaire owned media companies controlling the narrative?

Over here in Europe, it's extremely obvious. Everything a left-wing party does is scrutinized, every new right-wing scandal is barely worth mentioning.

Lemmy is just a left-wing bubble. Lots of people watch TV and simply believe most things they see.

Don't they?

"You don't need 100% of the people to love you. You need 10%, fuckin' pissed. You have followers. I have soldiers."

Financial obesity is an existential threat to any society that tolerates it, and needs to cease being celebrated, rewarded, and positioned as an aspirational goal.

Corporations are the only ‘persons’ which should be subjected to capital punishment, but billionaires should be euthanised through taxation.

"Corporations are the only ‘persons’ which should be subjected to capital punishment, but billionaires should be euthanised."

Ah man, the end of that quote must've gotten cut off by a guillotine or something

[–] AffineConnection@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Good thing this isn't Reddit.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

So refreshing to see another person who realizes this didn't happen overnight and has been an incremental and bipartisan project.

[–] K1nsey6@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

Unfortunately, the US education system teaches that everything is compartmentalized and not interconnected to other actions by government. A cut here, a clip there, before we know it, the entire tree has been taken down.

[–] NewSocialWhoDis@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 months ago

On the plus side, half of those are effectively dead.

[–] Bieren@lemmy.today 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Well do something about it other than post on social media. You are the politician in DC.

[–] MyVeryRealName@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Bills don't get the kind of popularity social media posts do.

NOT CARTOON NETWORK!!!!

[–] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Perhaps we should stop blindly believe what’s presented to you in the media, especially if it aligns with your views.

[–] Numinous_Ylem@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Bust that shit up. I can't believe we just let this sort of monopoly happen. Further proof that both parties are corporate-owned and always have been.

[–] K1nsey6@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Democrats always lay the foundations for Republicans to further subjugate the working class

[–] AlexLost@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Arrr mateys, it be smooth sailing on these here high seas.

I'm more glad for ditching cable than ever.

[–] Alwaysnownevernotme@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Just in time for cable to become completely irrelevant.

[–] acchariya@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Cool, I've just stopped watching all of these because they mostly suck, seems to be an easy boycott

[–] voaw@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

And again, because he's a Zionist, Bernie leaves out the elephant in the room: Israel.
