What is religion? Philosophy

I wish people just saw religion as a metaphor, but they really do believe there is a god and act accordingly even though there is no evidence of any gods existing.

The training for the models still requires massive data centers, ai has caused data center power usage to double in the last five years

That's a good argument for stopping the training of AI models, but the models we have are here to stay.

The personal impact is the artist that does not want their art used this way.

Maybe they shouldn't have publicly released their art to the world if they didn't want people or machines to make things similar to it. Copying is not theft, I think Nina Paley is right about that.

Honestly I think whatever this Ghibli trend is about, it's just good advertisting for the real Studio Ghibli.

It's a good read, but I'm not sure if it's a good take. This seems very emotionally-driven and not really logical. Someone could make low quality Ghibli style images by hand in large quantities. Is that just as bad?

This isn't very old lol. That computer could be from 2010 and CD's and Sharpies were used then. Also, LimeWire was functional until like late 2010.

standard Google keyboard on my Pixel, nothing fancy

The issue is that I am using something fancy.

Well there is no em dash or en dash key on the mobile keyboard. And there isn't a ... key either.

Understand and operate any arbitrary interface without having to have it explained to me by rote

Omg, this all the way. I'm in a class for learning AWS stuff and its crazy the amount of people who suddenly can't do anything when one button is on a different screen than the instructions told them it was. Like come on, use some basic thinking skills.

Another infuriating situation was having to do a class on Microsoft Office. It was infuriating because it was incredibly basic stuff. I've never used Outlook before, but I completed each task they asked of me in like 5 seconds because I have a basic understanding of how software works.

I discovered a while back that my Garmin GPS keeps track of everywhere I go automatically when it is turned on. I found this article about how I could easily copy the gpx files from it onto a computer. I like to hoard the gpx files it produces. I found a website called dérive which can show hundreds of gpx tracks on an OpenStreetMap background. It's super interesting to look at and see everywhere I've drove in the world. Additionally, the gpx tracks are useful for OpenStreetMap editing.

I read the section two definition of "chemical and surgical mutilation" and it mentions altering sex organs to remove their biological functions. One of the biological functions of a penis is to produce sperm. So could this mean no more federal coverage for vasectomies as well as stuff like tubal litigation or hysterectomies? And yes, I know that people under 19 don't usually get permanent sterilization procedures anyways, but I still wonder about this interpretation.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/protecting-children-from-chemical-and-surgical-mutilation/

The phrase “chemical and surgical mutilation” means the use of puberty blockers, including GnRH agonists and other interventions, to delay the onset or progression of normally timed puberty in an individual who does not identify as his or her sex; the use of sex hormones, such as androgen blockers, estrogen, progesterone, or testosterone, to align an individual’s physical appearance with an identity that differs from his or her sex; and surgical procedures that attempt to transform an individual’s physical appearance to align with an identity that differs from his or her sex or that attempt to alter or remove an individual’s sexual organs to minimize or destroy their natural biological functions. This phrase sometimes is referred to as “gender affirming care.”

It's a bit obnoxious. I make this excellent chili for family gatherings and nobody ever calls it just "chili". They always say "vegan chili".

The other day I made some pumpkin bread. When me and my dad went over to my grandmas house, we brought it. My dad announced "She made some vegan pumpkin bread!". Grandma knows I am vegan. So of course if I made it, it will be vegan, no need to state that.

I know this is a really stupid pet peeve that will probably get me downvoted to oblivion, but idk. Maybe someone here also gets it.

Mine is mapping. I am a big OpenStreetMap contributor and I have mapped many towns near me that were previously completely unmapped.
