How do you know an album’s gender?

[–] plyth@feddit.org 1 points 17 minutes ago

So what are the names of the albums for those who want to verify?

[–] osanna@lemmy.vg 5 points 1 hour ago

sales =/= quality

Hence why taylor swift is a billionaire.

[–] pbjelly@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago

Aw, I like Laufey 😭😭

[–] jeanofthedead@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago

Who’s the top right one?

[–] underscores@lemmy.zip 30 points 7 hours ago (3 children)

I was sharing music with a friend and their reaction upon being shown an artist (not even listening) was "ew less than 100k monthly listens”

bro? is this your metric for good music ? how many people listen to it on Spotify ?

if this is how avg ppl see music it explains a lot about top 40 charts

[–] nile_istic@lemmy.world 2 points 25 minutes ago

Funny, cuz lots of the ones who say "ew less than 100k listens" will also say they're not into pop music. Wondering what they think "pop" is short for lmao

[–] hardcoreufo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

I remember getting made fun of in middle school for listening to Nevermind, you know just a landmark in rock music because it was at the time almost 10 years old. Sigh.

[–] M137@lemmy.world 7 points 3 hours ago

It's sadly a very common thing and applies to just about everything. "It's not popular so it's automatically bad", I'm just glad I'm not forced to be around people like that too often.

It just came out, which probably why it's not on here, but I really enjoyed The Spinning Wheel by Mediæval Bæbes

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)
[–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 1 points 2 hours ago

I've been listening to them since I found their first album at the ren faire, haha

[–] 0ops@piefed.zip 80 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I don't listen to music with a calculator

TOOL fans in shambles

[–] SpiceDealer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 7 hours ago

Mathcore: Am I a joke to you?

[–] AndyMFK@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 hours ago

Personally the more popular an artist or band is, the less likely I'll enjoy their music.

This is broadly speaking and not universal, there are big exceptions like radiohead, massive attack, aphex twin, BICEP and tool, but for the most part, if something is in the charts, I'm probably going to hate it

[–] THE_GR8_MIKE@lemmy.world 7 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Man, I don't know shit about modern music evidently.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 6 hours ago

I too, am old now.

[–] pntha@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

excuse me where tf is Rosalia’s LUX. S+++ tier

[–] MajinBlayze@lemmy.world 35 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

What makes an album "female"?

[–] GreenShimada@lemmy.world 22 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (2 children)

This was easier to figure out with CDs /s

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 7 points 5 hours ago

All CDs have holes. None of them have penises.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 14 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

Yeah, but then they tried going all woke in the late 90s with the CD-RW stuff and data reassignment procedures.

[–] GreenShimada@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

"The drives! They're making the CDs gay!"

[–] hardcoreufo@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Wait until you hear what they did to serial cables.

[–] lime@feddit.nu 3 points 11 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 16 points 10 hours ago

If she covers her CD case when you talk to her, she's a female album.

[–] humanamerican@lemmy.zip 15 points 11 hours ago

Everyone tastes like something

[–] JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

Putting Man's Best Friend and Life of a Showgirl on the same level is slander

[–] wavebeam@lemmy.world 6 points 6 hours ago

Yeah! Sabrina is way better than Taylor!

~ I don’t actually hold this opinion. I don’t actually give a fuck at all. But I do like them both just fine ~

[–] BurntWits@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Which is supposed to be the better album?

I don’t listen to either artist and don’t care for either of them from what I’ve heard on the radio and at malls so I’m not the best person to judge. I’m curious what your thoughts are though (and what the general consensus is).

[–] JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

I mean It is just a matter of opinion if course, but I think the common consensus was that this was not Taylor's greatest work, and Manchild is one of if not Sabrina Carpenter's biggest song right now.

I personally was never the biggest fan of modern pop music but it's been starting to grow on me.

[–] BurntWits@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 hours ago

Ah, good to know, thanks. Not sure I’ll ever need the info but I’m always curious on what’s popular, even if it’s not something I’m interested in. I know of both artists but don’t know much music from either and don’t care to. But it’s cool to see what’s seen as better or worse by the general fanbase.

[–] usualsuspect191@lemmy.ca 2 points 7 hours ago
[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 7 points 11 hours ago

I can safely say I know none of these albums. I've enough prior music to deal with first.

[–] Thatuserguy@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Princess of Power being that low is genuinely insulting

[–] jeanofthedead@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago

It ain’t her best work (said as a fan).
