Blizzard openly admitting that they scammed players into buying Overwatch 1 twice:

[–] JTskulk@lemmy.world 6 points 17 hours ago

I'm still grateful that Blizzard did the Overwatch free weekend so I could determine for myself that it sucks ass.

[–] HollowNaught@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

I hatwcwhen guess try to add too many characters

Earlier on, it felt like I could competently play all characters and, when i saw another in the field, knew what to expect from them

Now, I feel like constantly learning new characters is a chore at best

[–] enterpries@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Fuck whatever morons think dumb shit like this is acceptable:

I swear, everybody is such a goddamn sellout these days.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 1 points 16 hours ago

Why are they storing that content in a third party cookie?

Seems like their webmaster needs to update it.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

This dumb shit isn't acceptable, and if I see something like this I just don't go to the website.

[–] enterpries@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

These look like generic Chinese-overwatch characters.

[–] Mwa@thelemmy.club 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

just play TF2 ~~or marvel rivals~~ at this point

edit: maybe TF2 Is the better option(and its mods)

[–] Jumi@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

TF2 is a different game and Rivals is definitely not as good in areas that matter like gameplay and maps

It is kinda hard to call yourself a sequel when you're basically the same exact game and literally the original game doesn't even exist anymore.

I do not like that I paid for Overwatch 1 but now only have Overwatch 2.

[–] fyrilsol@kbin.melroy.org 25 points 1 day ago (4 children)

The developers who made Terraria contemplated on a Terraria 2 and they were faced with the decision; continue developing Terraria as is or just try to make a Terraria 2.

Seems like they've instinctively chosen to keep supporting Terraria as is, because what can you do with a Terraria 2? When so many ideas and creations have been poured into one game? It sounded like Terraria 2 was going to be the same.

[–] popcar2@piefed.ca 12 points 1 day ago

Well... They did try to make Terraria Otherworld, but that game got cancelled and they fell back into supporting Terraria because it keeps printing money.

This is salt in the wound for my friends who miss launch Overwatch.

[–] ulkesh@piefed.social 55 points 1 day ago

I'm right there with you. I miss having 6v6 with like half the characters they have now (so I can actually learn them all), with Jeff Kaplan keeping me excited to play. What a fun time that was.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

I'm right there with you. I think the hamster was the last new hero I played with.

Those were good times.

Now they're adding a cat with a jetpack, which I would love if they gave her a better name than Jetpack Cat.

Jetpack Cat was the original name of the cat though. It's a tough corner they've backed themselves into there.

It was originally the model for Pharah, before they decided (Jeff Kaplan) that it should be more serious and not include actual animals in it (you have Winston, but he talks and acts like a human).

So they reworked the Jetpack Cat into Pharah and released her as the daughter of Ana.

Jetpack Cat is owned by Brigetta and is one of her emotes that she picks it up and cuddles it.

If they had named it anything else, it would have ruined the 10 years of lore they built up around it, so I understand why they did it.

The issue for me is that it's a support character.

"Jetpack cat"? Really? That desperate, huh?

[–] PrinceOfSloth@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 day ago (2 children)

why does this game ask for my phone no. to play?

[–] rigatti@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Because it's free to play and it's supposed to be a deterrent to smurfing.

[–] PrinceOfSloth@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

man, games are taken so seriously these days that they resort to smurfing.

[–] rigatti@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It's been that way for a long time. The term smurfing, I think, originated with Warcraft II.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

The games I played didn't have ranking. It was better.

[–] Holytimes@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It was an a****** dude that no one wanted to play against in high-ranking ladders because everyone knew his name because he was a f****** a******.

So he made two accounts. One called Papa Smurf and the other smurfette. Then proceeded to s*** on low-ranking. Players made fun of them and was he general a****** till everyone learned those names and started avoiding him as well.

Smurfing since its inception has been fundamentally something only assholes do where this whole purpose of being an a******.

Ranked systems only work if everybody only has one account. It's also why most games restrict you to only one account for ranked purposes.

If you can't be assed to cuss, stop using the words. All you are doing is making it harder to read what you are saying, and making yourself look like a child who will get in trouble for cussing. We aren't on YouTube or whatever, you won't have your content surpressed because you offended the advertisers delicate sensabilities.

Sorry, that rant was only half directed at you. I'm just frustrated at a world where using bad words is considered worse than literal nazi shit.

[–] imetators@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

Smurfing was probably a side-effect. I remember their main reasoning was to ban people who trash talk in voice comms/chat so they cant just create new account using same number.

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Activision does that with all their games now.

It’s the reason I won’t buy a new COD game.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@piefed.world 36 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

I gave up on this game a long time ago. It took me longer than it should've to realize that "old Blizzard" is gone and not coming back.

[–] Shanmugha@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Years for me. I spent years before realizing that I'm never getting a good matchmaker

[–] magiccupcake@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (5 children)

I took a long break from overwatch after the release of overwatch 2, but they have been made some big changes that have brought me back.

No more heros locked behind battle passes, free loot boxes, 6v6, great performance, sound design and the new perk system is nice. The game is more balanced than it ever was as overwatch 1, even it it's still not perfect.

I don't agree with everything, paid skins are absurdly expensive, and heros do seem designed to sell skins, but that's really not new either.

Still dead to me.

[–] justsquigglez@leminal.space 21 points 1 day ago

I think I actually took psychic damage reading that. Just... why.

[–] vogi@piefed.social 18 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Overwatch is close to being a decade old btw.

It’s so unfortunate what they did to Overwatch, wonder how Jeff Kaplan and the original Team feels about all that.

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

IIRC he just washed his hands and moved on from it, which probably was the right call given the Acti-Blizz merger and Microsoft buyout.

[–] Sineljora@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago
