I've raised pigs and seen wild boars do the exact same thing in order to "look up": they sit, in order to elevate their angle of vision.

Humans can't look behind themselves. The neck does not rotate that far. The solution: the entire body rotates.

No, pick me up and rotate my head to look behind me

[–] qyron@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 month ago

Either I pick you up or rotate your head.

I would rather do the first. The second can incurr in serious harm.

Even if you are looking straight ahead at the horizon you will see stars just due to your cone of vision.

For those wondering if it’s true that pigs can’t see the sky:

There's a fair bit of debate on the subject of a pigs ability to look upwards, but here's the gist!

Pigs are able to look up a bit and therefore can see portions of the sky, but as a result of their neck's anatomy they aren't able to look directly above them.

Pigs have short, muscular necks with limited mobility that prevents them from tilting all the way up. There are plenty of other ways for pigs to see the stars, such as rolling over on their backs, taking a few steps back from what they want to see and tilting the rest of their body in line with what they're looking at.

I still thought the sentiment in the post was nice and sweet though.

Treat me like I'm standing on a ramp or hillside

Yeah but like. Pigs roll in mud. They literally look at the sky when they roll in mud. The one thing theyre known to do, roll in mud. When you think of a pig, and theyre rolling in mud, they look all around including into the starts. While rolling in mud. The one things everyone thinks of when they think of pigs.

Apparently bacon coffee is a thing, I’m sure it tastes good actually…

They can still look up. They can lay on their back which they do.

Assuming that the poster is making this post on mobile, "4the" saved them one keyboard press, and "2b" saved them two keyboard presses, all at the expense of readability.

I thought this was aneurysm posting at first

Where pigs live, they can see stars without looking upwards. Some people in here don't get outside towns a lot I think!

Kinda like I'm 90% sure games where you take crippling fall damage after 6 feet had devs that never climbed and then fell out of a tree in their lives

I thought it was dogs that couldn't look up

Of all the nonsense the Internet has claimed in a mass delusion, that one puzzled me the most.

it’s a recurring joke in Shaun of the Dead, so internet content around it is like the birds aren’t real conspiracy

I thought only dogs couldn’t look up

The dogs I have at home would strongly disagree with you.

They will look up at me and judge me if I am not reading their mind to satisfy their wishes of food, my food to them, walks or pets.

Fruit, in particular, will earn me pleading/accusing stares, followed by paw strikes to my legs.

What they won't do is stare down on me. I can't lie on the ground. That gets me licks and growls to get me off the floor. They will get stressed and even bark and growl at each other if I'm on the floor.

Human down is a no-no.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Dogs can look up they just choose not to.
