The war in Ukraine and the attacks on NATO partners might seem distant, but Canada is on the front lines. As part of NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence in Latvia, Canada has more than 2,000 troops deployed under Operation Reassurance.

If Baltic leaders are right, and it’s only a matter time until there’s an open war with Russia, Canadians will be on the front lines from the beginning.

Canada’s NATO commitments also mean that an attack on any of these countries will be treated as an attack on Canada.

...

Historically, Canada and Europe have relied on American military guarantees, but it seems highly unlikely U.S. President Donald Trump would come to the aid of Latvia and declare war on Putin. Canada and its European allies are likely on their own.

...

“Estonia is prepared for different threats. We know that the pressure from Russia goes beyond the military. It also includes vandalism, sabotage, airspace violations, balloons threatening aviation, cyberattacks and ongoing information campaigns — not only against Estonia, but against all allies, no matter how near or distant, including Canada," says Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal.

"We also focus on building a strong economy and attracting investment, like the Canadian Neo Performance Materials plant in eastern Estonia. We protect our information space and work to make sure our society is resilient and ready to deal with any kind of crisis — whether it comes from aggressor states, from nature or from climate change. We are not afraid; we are prepared.”

...

Baltic societies offer Canada a clear blueprint for countering Russian coercion, preparing for crisis and building resilience without surrendering democratic values.

They have been at war with us for over a decade. Are we finally noticing?
Where do people think all this misinformation and division through social media is coming from? It's absolutely crazy how many people think we are on the brink of collapse, but it simply isn't true. Even with all this absolute insanity with Trump, things have been stable, with of course, lots of room to improve.

It is starting to seem like we'll be at war with the US soon too.

I think we'll find being at war with the US, also means being at war with Russia, because it's highly probable based on global posturing that they both see the EU as a threat. Specifically the US tech industry is teaming up with the far right, the far right want the EU to be more Christian nationalist, and the tech industry wants a more friendly regulatory environment in this very large consumer market. Russia wants the same thing but the regulatory environment it for Russian gas companies rather than tech companies.

Both Canada and Europe need to end their military subservience/cooperation with US military/state/intelligence which independently of Trump is the one that drives Russophobia warmongering. We don't need more nazi posting to the contrary.

Canada/world needs to promote peace/normal trade relations instead of amplifying US sponsored wars, where magically, only US colonies pay for the war.

Canada and the rest of NATO are on a collision course towards conflict with Russia AND the United States.

Both nations are currently posturing to attack the EU, from two different sides, and I don't think thats a coincidence.

It’s a good thing Russia has a shitty military

One nuclear missile will ruin your day.

[–] FreeBooteR69@lemmy.ca 4 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Thing about nukes is they aren't the only ones with them and that if they use them everyone else will. Putty is a coward, he won't go that far because the moment he does he and his shitty country are dead.

Except Canada does not have any.

[–] FreeBooteR69@lemmy.ca 2 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

We have good friends who do.

Hope you don’t mean the US. It’s time for us to stand on our own.

[–] FreeBooteR69@lemmy.ca 5 points 8 hours ago

UK and France have nukes.

That's what we want you to think. The plan is working.

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 1 points 9 hours ago

Theirs too.
