Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement there was "no basis" for an investigation. The statement comes as new polling shows over half of Americans say the shooting was unjustified.

Justice Department officials said on Jan. 13 there is "no basis" for an investigation into the killing of Renee Nicole Good, the mother of three whose fatal shooting by an immigration enforcement agent sparked protests across the country.

"There is currently no basis for a criminal civil rights investigation," Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement referring to Good.

The 37-year-old was fatally shot on Jan. 7 in Minneapolis, Minnesota by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Jonathan Ross, when she moved her car forward near the ICE agent. Her death has inspired widespread protests against the Trump administration’s militarized use of the Department of Homeland Security.

Why would a cartel of murderers investigate one of their murderers?

[–] Tehbaz@lemmy.wtf 5 points 4 hours ago

Every protestor should be openly armed. At their core, ICE agents are just slightly older school bullies - cowards in other words. If they knew that the protestors would respond in kind there's no way they would risk shooting anyone.

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 23 points 10 hours ago

Most corrupt DOJ in American history. And that's saying a lot.

[–] regedit@lemmy.zip 25 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

They want a reason to invoke Martial Law. You know what I just realized? You can't insult them, they feed on it. The same way they feed on violence. Ya know what did work on them?

WEIRD

They had no rebuke to being called weird. It started to work as they fought to make a sensible retort. Everything they tried made them sound even sillier. It was working!

We should do the physical version of that. Turn a mirror on them and embarrass them. Think Mark Rober style of traps. If every porch they smashed had a chance to unleash fart spray on their clothes and equipment, for instance, they might hesitate. Meeting such a thing, especially if automated and filmed, might just make some of that shame seep in.

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 7 points 8 hours ago

I have always thought a political party based entirely on the impotence of its members was weird.

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 10 points 11 hours ago

Just pointing and laughing loudly infuriates the more than anything, they want a tough guy confrontation

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 20 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

If Americans against Trump don’t seriously rise up over this - woman shot in the face x3 for nothing, ICE Gestapo acting as judge, jury and executioner - the US is over. There’s no difference between her state sanctioned murder and being disappeared in any Banana Republic.

[–] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 10 points 9 hours ago

I keep being surprised at people thinking it's almost there, that line, when it's far back in the rearview.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 14 points 13 hours ago

Since when does the DoJ base their decisions on how to enforce the law on public opinion? What the ever loving f**k kind of law is that? Oh, the fake kind they make up as they go along.

[–] Don_alForno@feddit.org 32 points 16 hours ago

over half of Americans say the shooting was unjustified.

That's a low bar to pass if I've ever seen one.

[–] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

Seems like someone needs to "investigate" the DOJ then. It likely won't be the democrats, will it be the people?

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

I think we should just treat the cover up as an admission to guilt.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 11 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

You spelled guillotine incorrectly there...

The Department of Justice is instead moving to investigate Good’s widow

Jesus fucking Christ, the nerve of these people

[–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 27 points 19 hours ago

This is the 'Flood the Zone' strategy used by Russia and promoted by Bannon in the last Trump admin.

It doesn't matter if it is bullshit, in fact it is always bullshit that drives outrage. They keep doing it enough so that the news is clogged up reporting on bullshit and the algorithms are recommending bullshit instead of covering important stories in depth.

[–] DylanMc6@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

At this point, we should form an alternative government of the United States as a micronation (similar to Molossia or Austenasia). Seriously!

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

No, vote for people with brains and good intentions.

[–] DylanMc6@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 9 hours ago

What about UBI (universal basic income)?

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 3 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I think the blue states should just secede. The red states aren't defending us from anything anymore. The federal government is executing people in the streets with impunity.

[–] BoycottTwitter@lemmy.zip 3 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

The difference between a blue state and red state is often times just a few percentage points of voting. This is not a good idea. Also there are so many amazing Democrats who have no choice but to live in red states. Moving is really expensive. Will you be willing to pay everyone's moving expenses? How will we afford a home or apartment in another state? Will we all have jobs? You will hurt a countless number of people if this happens.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 8 hours ago

I'd be happy to pay your moving expenses with the tax money we're currently paying red states. Countless people are already being hurt; that's what has prompted this conversation.

[–] LordCrom@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I am smack dab in a red state because of all the rural counties.... The blue areas around major cities isn't enough to FL blue.

All I can do is write and call my reps and vote.... But there aren't enough of us

[–] BoycottTwitter@lemmy.zip 2 points 10 hours ago

I'm very grateful you do that! It does all add up. Hopefully Democrats can start having real conversations with other people, I don't mean trying to change the most die-hard MAGA-type person but there are lots of people who don't think much about politics, are undecided or independent. If we can reach those people in masses I think it could start causing a shift from red to blue and hopefully it's enough to save our country.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 24 points 18 hours ago (7 children)

Don't accept this answer. There must be an investigation as the public demands it. These jokers just don't get it.

[–] Boiglenoight@lemmy.world 7 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Oh they get it. They do not care because the person that was harmed was not one of them. Even then…the number of faces eaten by leopards is staggering

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I agree with you. It is unbelievable that they took a mother away from her children and the next moment they are talking about going after the other parent. To try to take both parents away is truly evil.

[–] Boiglenoight@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

We used to wonder how the Nazis came to power. Somewhere far in the future, during a time of peace somewhere within the United Countries of Eurasia, a child will ask a teacher in the classroom, how was it possible for the MAGA to come to power?

It has leaked that ICE agents are terrified of blowback from this murder: https://www.kenklippenstein.com/p/immigration-agents-terrified-by-ice

Yeah of course they're cowards. Keep the pressure on, don't let them sleep at night.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 hours ago

There are a lot more of us than the are of them.

https://youtu.be/vuRUlqveNYg

[–] Krauerking@lemy.lol 6 points 12 hours ago

I honestly think they are reporting like that to get ICE even more on edge and getting ready to justify them having to go full murder mode.

This is the shit they do with cops. Make sure they are scared and sure everyone is out to get then to make sure they are willing and happy to pull a rifle to an Innocent's head and pull the trigger.

[–] MrVilliam@sh.itjust.works 27 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

I'm reminded of how justice is served on the ice in a hockey game. If a player executes an illegal, dangerous hit on another player, especially if the victim is the goalie or a star player, and the refs don't call shit, then that guy is about to get his ass beat.

There will be consequences, even if the DoJ refuses to act. The heat is rising on this cold civil war. When trump crowns himself head of the fed and slashes interest rates, and when the dollar crashes soon thereafter, shit's gonna get crazy.

I'm also predicting that somebody high up in this administration refers to America as an "empire" and then a "realm" and possibly just straight up a "reich" within this year.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 17 points 19 hours ago

That seems to be the thing the administration fails to understand, accountability through apparent investigations and prosecutions mollify the anger. Even if consequences are by any reasonable measure are mild, people are still mollified at an acknowledgement of wrong doing. Deny them this, and the anger rises...

Similarly, being able to lose an election has similar value. Your opponents "won" they don't need to extract more out of you. Deny them that and again people are going to potentially break.

Anecdotally, I know of a few people that seem shockingly close to violent uprising that I never would have guessed. I can't imagine the volume of people closer to extreme views and when they will snap..

There is no longer any justice in America.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 61 points 1 day ago (9 children)

Yeah...

But that's been true for a long time.

We tried convincing "moderates" that back when Biden was in office and we could fix shit.

But Biden wouldn't, and now that shit is bad for suburban white moms too, suddenly it's a brand new issue.

Like, great you finally realized it, but it would have been best if you didn't ignore everyone telling you that your entire life.

Because then you could have helped us fix shit before it was bad for you personally

At the very least, learn that lesson moving forward:

Fascists Choose Not To Investigate Themselves

[–] xxce2AAb@feddit.dk 77 points 1 day ago (5 children)

So what good are they then, and why should American citizens pay to keep them around?

Time for Minnesota to handle it. You can’t say “we can’t and you can’t either” (granted that’s what they’ll try to say)

When the people don't get justice through legal means, they have no choice but to seek it through illegal means.
