I was a latecomer to the Switch. Those vouchers never seemed like a good deal. I feel like they're a trap for newcomers and a way to make sure first-party games stay at the top of the most-sold list.

When I saw the voucher offer for the first time, I thought to myself: "I'll do that when I want to buy some Nintendo games like Mario Kart or Metroid."

Nope.

Not once.

In my region most of the games on the list are 49.99 so a 99.99 voucher for two isn't worth it. I could save a little if I bought the newest games on the list, but they are cheaper in the brick-and-mortar shops but a couple Euros.

Yeah it's really selective. I believe it was only a good deal for the big games like the two Zelda's and Mario games. Or really just two major Nintendo games within the selection. But really, Nintendo games never really have a great sale. At least I don't remember any Nintendo game going on sale until after the game vouchers were introduced, so I think this might have opened the doors for them.

I bought these a couple of times and for me it was worth it. Saved about 20%-30% but it depends on what games you used them on.

Opportunity to save money? Not with Nintendo...

With each passing day I’m happier I got a Steam Deck recently.

I love my Switch but I can’t stomach giving them any more money directly. Second hand unless and until they get more consumer friendly (not holding my breath).

Yeah same, I love my switch but my next console will either be a Steam deck or a Steam machine.

As for all the Switch 1 games, I'll maybe give my local library a shot - I heard they have quite a few to borrow

My understanding is that the steam deck can emulate switch 1 games reliably

From what I've seen only at 720p and worse frame rate, even android handhelds are starting to outperform the steam deck on emulation

They were never worth it for me. I don't know if it's the same everywhere, but even with the discount the games on which they work are always cheaper in physical version.

Depends on your use case. I only buy digital and mostly get Nintendo first party games on release, so the vouchers have been super helpful for that.

I am sad about them ending it.

I never understood what it was so wtv.

It was a deal where you could spend $100 and get two vouchers for two games.

And since games often were priced at $59.99 (in the switch 1 days), you essentially saved $20 on two games.

However, the vouchers didn’t work on everything all the time. But if there were a couple of games you wanted anyway, it was a pretty good deal.
