Abolish police unions + qualified immunity and require cops have higher standards + forced to carry insurance.
Also maybe like take their guns away and make them ride bicycles and require they pick up every piece of litter they see, block traffic with their bodies while people use crosswalks. Also make it completely volunteer work, no pay, no pensions, just a bike and a hi-vis vest you can borrow for 8hrs at a time.

We're people. The job doesn't matter, we're still people. If the jobs switch roles, we'll still be people. Whatever job it may be, people are the ones doing them.
By that same logic: if there are 1000 good retail workers and 10 bad ones, and the 1000 good ones don't speak up about the 10 bad ones, you have 1010 bad retail workers... Not sure about that.
It's not the job of retail workers to arrest people who are bad retail workers...

But really, how many food service workers spit or throw snot in the food they serve? How many with infectious disease contaminate what unknowing victims eat? Not many, maybe 10 out of 1000, maybe less.

My understanding of a "bad cop" is a police officer who harms people for fun and personal gain, often in illegal ways, and with little to no repercussions.
What is a bad retail worker exactly? Do they steal cleaning supplies? Are they rude to customers? Do they fail to use the stock room's organizational system?
What if the good ones tell their union to fight for the bad ones?
What if a couple proactive employees try to get the bad ones fired, and the rest of the employees bully the proactive ones and try to get them fired instead?

but also, yes retail workers could do better, but that's more up to their employer. the reason we feel we can affect police is because these are public employees who's checks we pay for. these changes need to be systemic. they need to change the basics of who how and why police get trained and deployed. that is government reform. that is a voting issue. walmart employees could also do better if Walmart payed them better, gave them more time off to be with family when needed, gave better health insurance, provided better training and outside opportunities to their employees. but we know walmart won't do this things because they only care about profit. the police have no such obligation. their only obligation should be to us, but right now it's mostly just to the people with the money.

Let me just state this: police violence makes me furious as well, and it also makes me really frustrated that there are so many people who will defend anything the police does. The solution to that is not jumping to the other extreme. That just deepens the trenches, and holy hell are they deep already.
Better training, more accountability, better conditions to attract more of the right kind of people to the job, I'm all for it. Let's not paint them all with one brush, because many are really in it for the right reasons. Because there's also the cop that spends years investigating a murder so that the perpetrator is caught before the next victim that arises. That finds answers for the family of a missing loved one. That finds that missing loved one. That breaks apart an organized crime ring that regularly assassinated people. Or even that gave that one pissed off person his 14th speeding ticket which made him slow down just enough to avoid a fatal accident. Are those also all bad cops?

When "good" cops don't speak up about cops violating the law they're actually putting their jobs on hold for the benefit of bad cops.
Retail workers aren't paid to enforce behavior, they're paid to sell consumer goods. If 1000 "good" retail workers stopped working just to support 10 bad ones, they would be 1010 bad ones. But 1000 retailer workers who ignore the lazy guys and keep selling stuff are doing their jobs just fine.
