This theory is making more and more sense. Which also implies there's no Who Tony Stark to make him the uber-stretchy pants.
Too large by three sizes. His transformations start with the heart.
He doesn't like Christmas because that's when he turns into the monster.
Not many realize that Grinch the scientist is the actual monster of the story

Codsworth recognizes Assface as a proper name, but that was in 2077 so maybe we just haven't gotten there yet, culturally.

IMO it seems like he's been forced to live atop Mt Crumpet due to Who-gentrification or more disturbingly because of an ethnic Grinch cleansing
According to the Star Trek: The Next Generation tie-in comic book there's a whole species of them.
It's his name. You can see in the school flash back, when he's still part of civilised society, that his nameplate says Grinch.
But interestingly the book of Who says the term "Grinchy" should apply when Christmas spirit is in short supply.
And we're given the impression the book of who is an old foundational text. So it would appear the old ladies named him after the term Grinchy. So they're really just assholes.
So the ladies just named him the equivalent or Boaty McBoatface, but for his attitude. Lol. Grand-Karens.
