Rules for Posting Guides on Our Community

1. Defining a Guide Guides are comprehensive reference materials, how-tos, or comparison tables. A guide must be well-organized both in content and layout. Information should be easily accessible without unnecessary navigation. Guides can include flowcharts, step-by-step instructions, or visual references that compare different elements side by side.

2. Infographic Guidelines Infographics are permitted if they are educational and informative. They should aim to convey complex information visually and clearly. However, infographics that primarily serve as visual essays without structured guidance will be subject to removal.

3. Grey Area Moderators may use discretion when deciding to remove posts. If in doubt, message us or use downvotes for content you find inappropriate.

4. Source Attribution If you know the original source of a guide, share it in the comments to credit the creators.

5. Diverse Content To keep our community engaging, avoid saturating the feed with similar topics. Excessive posts on a single topic may be moderated to maintain diversity.

6. Verify in Comments Always check the comments for additional insights or corrections. Moderators rely on community expertise for accuracy.

Community Guidelines

By following these rules, we can maintain a diverse and informative community. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to the moderators. Thank you for contributing responsibly!

WTF is a Grape Pie?

Sincerely, someone who's lived in Arizona for 24 years.

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago

Could you please ask your neighbors which one of them is furiously Google searching "grape pie"?

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 2 points 15 hours ago

From KS and live in MO. I have never eaten Frito Chili Pie and I’ve only had Apple on thanksgiving once.

[–] jambudz@lemmy.zip 4 points 21 hours ago

Lived in and around DC basically my whole life. I have never once seen a “banoffee pie” nor would I be able to identify it or describe it.

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Aww yeaaah Oregon sitting over here on the ONLY pie I can actually make. Mmm mm.

(Didn't know it was that popular of a dish. Damn good, even if seriously ugly.)

It is from a real huffpost "article" that I found, but yeah, it's basically rage bait.

[–] mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 1 day ago

Yeah no hate on you OP :)

I figured it was either by someone outside the US or someone who just thought it was good conversation anyways.

I have now learned that most Americans have incorrect preferences

[–] psycotica0@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago

I know a lot of people are complaining about the accuracy of... basically everything about this map.

But what really bothers me is that I feel with every fiber of my being like Pumpkin Pie and Key Lime Pie shouldn't be in the same category as each other. They're just not the same kind of experience. Regardless of who eats them when.

[–] ohshittheyknow@lemmynsfw.com 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This map is blatantly false

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

no kidding, they made "pecan" and "pecan" the same color!

[–] Pandantic@midwest.social 51 points 2 days ago

Uniquely searched pies

cream pie

Are we sure this was for thanksgiving?

[–] musky_occultist@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I don't think sweet potato pie is as big as they think, but more to the point, I'm angry about it being included with "savory."

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

Sweet potato pie

"Savory"

Title is utter horseshit.

The map is only a measure of "unique searches" by people from that state on Google. Nothing to do with actual preferences, just what they searched.

[–] ChexMax@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Yup. No one is searching pumpkin pie. Either you're buying it, or you know how to make it.

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

That's exactly my thought. This list is probably closer to, "second pie we want to try".

I'm thinking too much about what a pie is and now all pie just seems fucking weird

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Heh, I see you, Nevada 😏

The lack of talk about shoofly pie really saddens me since its the best pie

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

I haven't had it since I was a child, but even then I remember it being sickeningly sweet. Like diabetes in pie form.

[–] Sh00Fly@piefed.social 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes, it is the best pie! 🥧 Nice to meet you, lilith267. You are now my bestie.

I've never even fucking heard of the pie that is apparently the most popular in my state. I call bullshit.
