After the massacre of Wheel of Time and Rings of Power, I just can't be arsed getting interested in anything Amazon is having a crack at.

Fallout was awesome
They did pretty well for The Expanse and Fallout. But don’t let this get in the way of a good meme…
Just my opinion here, but I think Amazon Prime has quite a lot of good (original) content:
The Boys is good.
The Legend of Vox Machina and The Mighty Nein.
Good Omens was very entertaining.
Not my jam, but people seem to like Clarkson's farm.
I also liked Invincible
The most recent boys season was a difficult watch, but the last episode was phenomenal and so I'm a sucker and will continue watching.
The Expanse is the one show I'm impressed by
of course, they then cancelled it. and every Amazon show I've seen since has been shot, notably Wheel of Time and Rings of Power
SyFy cancelled The Expanse. Amazon picked it up and funded it to completion. Although only because Bezos loves the novels and was livid that StyFy got it in the first place.
it's the "to completion" part that I am referring to
as I understand it, it was cut short
Stargate was over years ago. Are they adding an interesting new element, or is this just going to be a rehash? Loved Stargate, but all good things must end.
Which one? There were three series, and only sg-1 had a real conclusion
Both Atlantis and universe were meant to keep going, they just got cancelled because of production costs
I guess I am thinking about SG-1. I never saw Atlantis and Universe could have used some more time to develop.
It was already a dead franchise. Worst case it'll stay that way. But I'm not without hope, as not all Amazon adaptations are bad, e.g. The Expanse or The Boys.
On the other hand I don't know how to feel about Emmerich being involved. I think he always disliked the direction the series took after his (very different and IMO inferior) movie.
Imo, the expanse was excellent partly because of casting and the fact that the authors were so involved with it. Also, had what like 3 seasons before it hit Amazon? I still wish we got to see an adaptation of the final 3 books but I'm still glad we got what we did, definitely up there for me both tv and book wise.
There is still hope we will get the last three one day. Maybe we just have to wait a couple decades to let the time lines match up better.
Fallout was excellent!
Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for nuclear winter. (Hope season two will be good)
SG-1 was great and dwindling towards the end. They ended there to at least stop when they were goo. You could see the effects of modern hollywood creeping in those last 2 seasons. Atlantis was already embracing modern hollywood, and Universe was the death knell to the franchise.
They should've left it dead. Now they're going to try and raise a zombie, put make-up and lipstick on it, then kill it so that newer generations can remember Stargate as "oh, that shitty series?".
*Aluminium hat on*
They are reintroducing it to try and capitalise on the "it was aliens" meme. They are hoping to get a lot of viewership from the fringe and conspiracy theorists that will truly believe the pyramids were landing platforms for alien motherships.
Fysa, The Expanse is getting a game.
Owlcat, the same folks that did the excellent Rogue Trader, are running with it.
The theme song is epic.
Not just Emmerich, but Devlin as well. I'm worried about this. They tried to reboot the movies in 2014 and pitched a TV show in 2019. They're both on the record as being salty about SG-1, and I understand why they were salty about it but it's well beyond them now and after all these years, they're gonna come in totally play ball, just like that? And this while Malozzi and Wright are "consulting producers," meaning they give money to the production to get their names on it but they will be largely ignored. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm worried.
You’ve already decided it’s going to be bad. No matter what. How small minded are you?
"I will not learn from the past but repeat my mistakes and keep wishing for the best"
- a small mind
Hey, the trillion dollar company is trying their hardest, give them a break!
Funny how polarized the comments are.
Going by their track record, season 1 will either be quite good or really bad. There will be no in between, and I’m fine with that… best it doesn’t go on as a mediocre zombie.
Stargate Universe got there first.
I actually enjoyed universe
It went from "decent" to "OK yeah this is good" from s1 to s2, and I really wish I got to see where s3 would have gone. I really wanted to know what happened to Eli and those three years to make the jump.
Shame we didnt get to find out.
So this is the thing... Universe is ready for a continuation basically whenever. Here's how:
Eli got the last pod working and they went into stasis. However, due to the age of the ship, the stasis didn't keep them from aging. Unfortunately, some of the crew (whose actors didn't want to come back) died or are stuck in stasis. A side effect of what Eli did to get the last stasis chamber working also used a ton of energy, so the ship had to conserve power getting to the new galaxy (hence the extra time taken). As they're starting up the ship again in a new galaxy, they discover that it's been looted. Everything inconvenient to the production (such as the ancient communication stones) has been taken.
If the production wants, Earth has the power now to dial up the Destiny, but since Destiny can't dial back, any trip is one-way. This way they can get modern tech and stuff (and have video calls with Earth while the Stargate is open), but they're still decently cut off. (Also, food and stuff are no longer an issue as the SGC can simply send packages through whenever the dial the gate.) This does also allow some new cast members as long as the have a sufficiently compelling "go on a one way trip" story. Maybe one of them even got special dispensation to bring their cat.
Such a great premise, so much teenage drama! It was awful!
The tried to be BSG so hard then forgot they weren’t supposed to make all the characters stupid and incompetent
Amazon hasn't ruined invincible. I'd argue it's better than the comics and each season it's better than the last.
Fallout and the Boys are great.
I have only watched about 3 seasons of the boys (and read the entire comic) and I think the show is better than the comic.
The story is very different, and for the better. In the comic, the protagonist is always Hughie, but the main focus of the story is Butch and how he kind of "shapes" Hughie. Home Lander and the seven are a lot more of a plot device than anything else and three of the seven almost never do anything, this is because the real villain is the concept itself of a company like Vaught. All of this is fine, if that's your cup of tea, my problem is that everything else is kinda just thrown there just to be splattery and outrageous without much rhyme or reason. There's a lot of very dull monothematic characters that appear in their arc and then pop up once in a while.
In the show every character is a lot more developed, instead of just Hughie and Butch. And their journeys are a lot more intertwined with one another, and the story itself is a lot more complex. I think the worst part of the show is when it tries to wink at the comic fans and it just looks out of place, while swooshing over the head of who didn't read the comic (e.g. "take away that ...😉 Love sausage 😉😉... from me"; "hello ...😉 Vic...toria 😉😉")
Hell, the last two seasons of SG-1 did that for me. I wasn't looking for a Farscape reunion.
I call those seasons Fargate
It's a Fargate. It makes things go far! We are not getting sued!
just like they got ready for black friday by raising the prices of things in my cart, making the original prices prime exclusive, and calling it sale price?
I feel like Amazon actually try to make decent stuff, they just don’t do a very good job of it.
What did they do to Mass Effect?
I guess they want to insinuate that Andromeda killed Mass Effect. While Andromeda certainly got a studio killed, the game itself is actually pretty good in my opinion.
I enjoyed playing Andromeda, in fact I think gameplay-wise it's the most fun of any mass effect. But story and character wise it was so mediocre that very shortly after finishing it I couldn't tell you who anyone was or any of the things that happened.
It might have been better off with a different spin-off name that made it clear it was in the same universe but wasn't really Mass Effect, because it kinda misses the mark for what those games were about.
Joke's on you that goofy-ass shit has been dead for decades.
I write this affectionately.
I don't know how many people have watched SG-1 recently but my wife and I just watched the movie and the first like 8 episodes for the first time in the last two months and... It was not good. The tech made no sense, the plot often times made no sense, the characters were very 90's television, and of course there was a lot of racial, sexism, xenophobia embedded or explicit in each episode.
I'm happy people enjoyed it in its time, and if you still watch it and like it that's fine. But I wouldn't recommend this show to anyone young or that I know personally cause it wasn't good.
Stargate felt like it lacked the philosophical core that other sci-fi shows at the time (or before) had and didn't have the sci-fi down really either. It was mostly "look at these lesser earth based cultures", "nerds are so annoying", "cool military guys are just built different". Coming off of Babylon 5 which had like Worker rights episodes or nearly any season of early Star Trek, SG-1 felt hollow. I'm surprised people like Stargate as much as they do.
You could probably say the same about TNG, the first season wasn’t great. But it picks up pace and gets better and better (with a few bad episodes every now and then).
Give it a chance.
I cant recall the first episode... for me most of the show is okay, and them sometimes an amazing episode comes along, or maybe an story arc that last a season or more.
Like most other series, its not the core show that is brilliant, its a subset of episode that you need a lot of context to get the full experience.
