Zhang Liao in Wo Long is beating the hell outta me. I'm close to rage quitting. I made it past Lu Bu eventually but this dude is frustrating me so much I'm no longer having any fun. Then there are so many people saying, "beat him in 1 attempt", "oh, he's easy", etc, etc. Arrrrgh!
Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes
This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".
Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.
Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:
[BB] This enemy is so difficult!
or
[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

I do not know what the hell is wrong with me, but the very first boss in Lies of P (the parade master), is my exact antithesis. Every other boss generally only takes me 2-3 tries at most, but I think I spent like 4 hours trying to kill that fucker.
And before you ask, yes, he still spanks me later in the game, and every time I start a new game.
His second phase is annoying as fuuuuck, but I found him perfect to learn the two dragons sword moveset.
He can definitely be tough - I get it
Not really playing any soulslikes this week... Unless you can cound KCD2? I wouldn't but it does have souls-like combat.
The stupidly easy boss that I am still fucking stuck on is the dragon in the prison level on Demon's Souls (the remake). It's bugged or something. It keeps killing me while I am still down the god damn hallway from it, out of range of its stomp and fire. This is a gimmick boss that you're supposed to just time right and activate two switches, but I can not even reach the actual puzzle area due to this glitch. 😬
And because I can not get beyond this area, it is now the only Souls-like I have played, but not beaten. I finally beat Sekiro and Lies of P, but now I am stuck at this shit in DsS.
Is the combat different to KCD1? I'm liking the first game a lot , but I feel very stupid on it. I'm not clicking with the combat at all :s
IDK; I haven't played KCD1.
lmao what? Is that the PS3 or 5 version? I think I've heard of the bug somewhere but haven't actually expected it to affect people
PS5 remake.
Abyss Watchers. These days I can backstab them all day, but first playthrough they served well as a skill check.
Twin Princes, too. Besides the teleport on top of your head, it's an extremely fair fight. If you respect their moves they practically can't hurt you. They were very tough the first couple playthroughs though.
Elden Ring: a playthrough with the Sword of Night and Flame; i need a palate cleanser after my RL1 run. With the ^Sword_of_Night_and_Flame^ I can invest nigh endless levels in a super powerful weapon that's not viable at RL1
Cleric Beast in Bloodborne: took me dozens of attempts. Bloodborne was my first Souls game and man did cleric beast throw me up and down that bridge. I even found Gascoigne's summon sign, got him killed twice and then didn't understand why his sign wasn't there anymore (I had no idea about Insight at that point). But eventually, very eventually Cleric Beast was defeated. Now that I think about it some more it's not that embarrassing. Cleric Beast is a tutorial Boss for fighting large enemies and it did definitly thoroughly teach me that.
Elden Ring: a playthrough with the Sword of Night and Flame; i need a palate cleanser after my RL1 run.
From no stat leveling to leveling all your stats. * have yet to really utilize that sword because 4 stats to build up for maximum AR with how it scales just seems like it would take longer than it's worth. 🤣
Is mostly just an Int/Faith weapon. The Dex/Strength returns are minimal. One part of the skill, the beam, scales with only int and the fire fan only faith. The nice thing is how many buffs you can stack on top of one another with this build: Golden Vow, Howl of Shabriri, Tera Magicka + Magic Physick + Magic Ring, Rannala Cameo, Alexander Shard, Ritual Sword. It's going to be glorious.
If you want a true 4 stat weapon than look at Rellana's Twin Blades. Same deal with the Skill, but the weapon mostly scales mostly quality (Dex and Strength evenly)
My first soulslike was DS3 and my relationship with my 'soulmate' life partner started with me asking if they'd ever played it, and I was stuck on Gundyr for a few days. My intrigue kept me from quitting, but I just wanted to see more of the game! They beat Gundyr for me, and now, after three playthroughs, I finally beat all bosses. My hardest foes were Slave Knight Gael and Darkeater Midir - I studied videos on Midir but eventually learned the pattern of Gael :3
I also won a small Bandai Namco-sponsored competition, and my partner is now the owner of a small plot of land in Glencoe with the title of Elden Lady :3
Wait that's so cool! What kind of competition was it?
Thank you! This one. I submitted an entry, simply explaining why I wanted to win, and I was one of 100 chosen :3
Not a boss, the bonfire crowd in Bloodborne. It was one of my first video games, I had no idea what I was doing and it took me a whole week.
Just beat Silksong for true ending yesterday. Might go back and finally get all the upgrades for 100%
I don’t know if Dancer of the Boreal valley is considered weak but I died over 50 times to her before even finding Vordt. Oops.
I will be playing Elden Ring but I’ve been stuck on some random miniboss I don’t recall the name of. In a crystal cave with those annoying glaive wielding bugs.
Why did you kill the old lady?
She was sus
Better safe than sorry.
Bloodborne was my very first soulslike and Gascoigne took me weeks to get through. It was so frustrating and yet, I could see that there was a path to beating him. I really had to gut gud.
After it clicked, I progressed through the game steadily and even got the platinum. I went in to platinum the Dark Souls series, Elden Ring and Nightreign.
Sekiro is a different story. I also struggled with the drunkard for days. I still haven’t finished the game.
Bloodborne was my first as well and Amelia took me a while. :S
Which boss in Bloodborne?
Meant to say Gascoigne. Oops.
I'm doing a blind playthrough of demons souls, might play some sekiro as well
Lies of P dlc ♡ . Very fun, very difficult. But oof, what an incredible "first" big bossfight... In my opinion, this game's uniqueness and creativity really shine when the puppets are used.
Yesterday I reached a boomhammer wielding enemy and I hope I can get my hands on that to continue! So far I've only found dex weapons. (But I've found lots of little nods to bloodborne, love to see it)
I already have so many thoughts on it and I'm very glad I purchased it, having an awesome time.
Amelia (Bloodborne) was the first boss that took me for a ride in the struggle bus, granted I barely knew what I was doing then. I was twitchy and struggled with the speed of the fight, so I banged my head against it for a good while trying to resist the button mashing impulses. But I was enamored by the world, I had to keep going.
Looking forward to your future thoughts - it's an awesome time. Glad you like it :)
Do you want to know if you get a boomhammer or would that be a spoiler to you?
How did you find BSB? I found Amelia to be difficult, for sure - especially in a BL4 run, but nowhere near a roadblock as BSB. Hate its moveset til today
Don't get me wrong, everything was hard on that first playthrough haha, but I did Amelia first so I struggled waaaay more.
You see, first time I did not unlock the real shortcut to BSB even though I did enter the building :') so, I was running back almost all of old Yharnam everytime and I also was fighting everything on the way (sorry Djura).I hadn't fully grasped the way the game was meant to be played ....I honestly don't know how I didn't drop it all together (but I can be obsessive like that). so I just said: fuck it, turned arround and came back later, and by that time I had a much better idea as to what I was doing so the moveset didn't feel that bad, (l did struggle with the poison a bit.) Cut to me having a breakdown on my second playthrough when I found the shortcut door.
As to the boomhammer, I guess I'm about to find out :P but since the dlc is rectifying some of the inexplicable decisions made on the base game, my hunch I that I maaay actually get to play with it. We'll see.
I'm planning to do a (probably long) thought dump post on the game when I finish the dlc and another, a little more involved piece of fan art I'm making. well .. I'll try to be consice :D
Ouch on that shortcut. There were probably times where I went unnecessarily long stretches in the game without unlocking some shortcut - I feel like it's part of an average soulslike experience :D
Absolutely, that would be cool! Looking forward to your thoughts and to the art piece :) ✨
Yeah, I already found a shortcut after beating a miniboss the dlc haha . And, no boomhammer :'c but used the rocket(?) and other cool, explody, blade so my heart will heal.
