Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes

This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:

[BB] This enemy is so difficult!

or

[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

My weekend's started today already, so I might get some more time in to play. Might continue Lies of P, but I'll probably start another playthrough of Disco Elysium instead - feel like going for some comfort gaming again.

By "easy" boss, I mean a boss like Asylum/Taurus Demon in DS1 or Chained Ogre/Bull in Sekiro: a boss that's meant to be more of an introduction to the game and pose a bit of a roadblock for new players but ultimately nothing that should take you too long. Maybe a gimmick boss too? Whatever you feel like should be easy and took you too long for your liking.

For me, it's probably Juzou the Drunkard from Sekiro. Mind you, basically any boss in Sekiro can give you a run for your money, but Juzou single-handedly made me quit the game three times over. Don't get me wrong - it's not an easy fight considering he's got a whole army of foot soldiers to help him and that you, essentially, need to pick them off one by one any time you try to reattempt the fight, plus he's got a strong moveset. But considering he's accessible so early on, basically right after getting access to Hirata Estate possibly even before fighting the Ogre, he's quite a challenge. He's still a roadblock for me at times whenever I go for another run these days and that's after getting a platinum and beating the game like 6 or 7 times?

Lies of P dlc ♡ . Very fun, very difficult. But oof, what an incredible "first" big bossfight... In my opinion, this game's uniqueness and creativity really shine when the puppets are used.

Yesterday I reached a boomhammer wielding enemy and I hope I can get my hands on that to continue! So far I've only found dex weapons. (But I've found lots of little nods to bloodborne, love to see it)

I already have so many thoughts on it and I'm very glad I purchased it, having an awesome time.

Amelia (Bloodborne) was the first boss that took me for a ride in the struggle bus, granted I barely knew what I was doing then. I was twitchy and struggled with the speed of the fight, so I banged my head against it for a good while trying to resist the button mashing impulses. But I was enamored by the world, I had to keep going.

Looking forward to your future thoughts - it's an awesome time. Glad you like it :)

Do you want to know if you get a boomhammer or would that be a spoiler to you?

How did you find BSB? I found Amelia to be difficult, for sure - especially in a BL4 run, but nowhere near a roadblock as BSB. Hate its moveset til today

Don't get me wrong, everything was hard on that first playthrough haha, but I did Amelia first so I struggled waaaay more.

You see, first time I did not unlock the real shortcut to BSB even though I did enter the building :') so, I was running back almost all of old Yharnam everytime and I also was fighting everything on the way (sorry Djura).I hadn't fully grasped the way the game was meant to be played ....I honestly don't know how I didn't drop it all together (but I can be obsessive like that). so I just said: fuck it, turned arround and came back later, and by that time I had a much better idea as to what I was doing so the moveset didn't feel that bad, (l did struggle with the poison a bit.) Cut to me having a breakdown on my second playthrough when I found the shortcut door.

As to the boomhammer, I guess I'm about to find out :P but since the dlc is rectifying some of the inexplicable decisions made on the base game, my hunch I that I maaay actually get to play with it. We'll see.

I'm planning to do a (probably long) thought dump post on the game when I finish the dlc and another, a little more involved piece of fan art I'm making. well .. I'll try to be consice :D

Ouch on that shortcut. There were probably times where I went unnecessarily long stretches in the game without unlocking some shortcut - I feel like it's part of an average soulslike experience :D

Absolutely, that would be cool! Looking forward to your thoughts and to the art piece :) ✨

Yeah, I already found a shortcut after beating a miniboss the dlc haha . And, no boomhammer :'c but used the rocket(?) and other cool, explody, blade so my heart will heal.
