Trump continues to express interest in same illegal thing he has expressed interest in for years because it strokes his ego to think about, news at 11.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 81 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

.... and the dumbest part of that statement is that America has completely normalized it.

He says dumb things, America doesn't take it seriously, he acts on whatever dumb thing he says, America shrugs their shoulders, he goes on to say even dumber things.

Trump is only half the problem in all this.

[–] higgsboson@piefed.social 12 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Trump's public statements during his first term were found to be "false or misleading" on average 60% of the time. If you tried to take everything he says seriously, you'd die of exhaustion. Merely taking him at his word is not any kind of solution.

[–] otp@sh.itjust.works 11 points 3 weeks ago

But if you interpret all the jokes as "things he wants to do"? Probably pretty good odds

He lies a lot, true. But he always tells the truth when he's talking about his plans to fuck over this country for his own benefit.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The mind blowing thing is that if, in any other job in America, a majority of things out of someone's mouth were all about their plans to do highly illegal things that would hurt people, they'd have been hauled off long ago and "It was just a joke, bro!" wouldn't be a valid defense.

This clown from hell jokes about harming and killing people every day, and follows through with it.

He jokes about breaking fundamental laws every day, and follows through with it.

It's such a major flaw in our system that there's seemingly no way to haul him away for repeated failures and egregious criminal harms to the entire country.

Joking or not, the news perpetuates his rhetoric by publishing it.

[–] ReallyActuallyFrankenstein@lemmynsfw.com 32 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

It's the typical narcissistic sociopath trial balloon method, and I agree the news is (intentionally or not) complicit. You test boundaries constantly, break the ones that are not strong enough to resist, and wear down the others by normalizing it.

First others say it, then joking about it, then saying earnestly he'd like it, next is "exploring options." By 2027, he'll be normalizing actively campaigning, and by 2028 he'll be on every GOP- and GOP-controlled purple-state ballot, with expedited Supreme Court shadow docket decisions pending to force it on the rest of the states.

[–] FenderStratocaster@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Hopefully he'll be long dead by then, but his existence is proof of a benevolent creator that seemingly won't let that happen.

[–] ReallyActuallyFrankenstein@lemmynsfw.com 12 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

I say only half-jokingly: The best argument I've seen for a deity is that the last few years defy any explanation except that such a being exists and feels we deserve to be punished.

If that's the case, he's going to survive for quite some time.

[–] Tujio@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

"Now I'm not saying that I think this is true. But would any of you be surprised to learn that he's got a genie?"

The Economist interviewed Steve Bannon last week

He was very upfront and plain about it: Trump will run for a 3rd term, he will win the election. This needs to be done because America is "under attack". And if it is prevented, it is subversion of the Will of the People.

Alarm bell ringing turned up to 11

[–] uss_entrepreneur@startrek.website 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

This is fucking stupid. Just try to get an amendment passed allowing this if you’re so sure. If you can convince 2/3 of each chamber and 3/4 of the states, maybe it’s the will of the people.

Good fucking luck with that tho.

[–] sudo@lemmy.today 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

If you think their illegal implementation of policy is contingent on 'the will of the people', you're 'fucking stupid'.

[–] HurlingDurling@lemmy.world 14 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Hoping for him to not to be alive before his term ends

[–] mrmaplebar@fedia.io 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

He's literally already had the hats made...

JFC Americans take the phrase "burying their heads in the sand" to some astonishly crazy levels.

I stopped engaging with anyone about this because i just grew too tired and that was back in 2020 before the election. Some kid I went to highschool with that I had recently reconnected with, was posting positive shit about Trump and saying he was just joking about a 3rd term, etc etc, when Trump first hinted at this illegal 3rd term idea. I tried explaining, why is he talking about a 3rd term when he hasn't even secured his 2nd term, he is dead serious about wanting a 3rd term dude, its obvious and he just couldn't see it or believe it. Its all a joke, locker talk, etc. The usual.

I have totally given up engaging with these people, maybe other people have the energy to slowly and kindly walk them through to the acceptance phase of who Trump truly is, but I don't.

That assumes he will still be alive. Regardless of what his propaganda minister states, Trump is not healthy. He will be 82 by the next election. I would be more concerned about who the MAGA faithful try to get elected after the great pumpkin.

He’s going to. There’s absolutely no doubt about it. He’d rather die in office than face sentencing for the crimes he’s guilty of.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 weeks ago

His successor wouldn’t do anything.

To me it's incredible that there are still people saying "all this will be over in 2028" and "just vote him out in 3 years". My brothers and sisters in Christ, looking at everything going on you remain so optimistic as to think there will be another election?

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 18 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

He needs to be arrested. Now. Him and every goddamn Republican criminal in government. The uncountable number of intentional civil rights violations alone should get them all life without parole.

He is the state, he is the government, he is the sole arbiter of violence. There is no legal recourse, and there won't be until the tyrant is gone.

JD thinks this is the funniest shit. Trump will never double jerk in the Epstien ballroom. Peter Thiel and Larry Ellison are almost ready to insert the couch fucker.

Because he loves to do anything that shits on Americans, he’s made that pretty clear.

“Unconstitutional third term” -that’s it, end of story. Unconstitutional means illegal. Gtfo

Is there a term for knowing something is illegal and still doing the illegal thing?

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 weeks ago

Willful disregard for the law

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yes, it's called breaking the law

If they force a third term, then America is officially over. At that point, there is no rule of law, and ANYTHING goes.

Just saw on the news this morning, some Trump loyalist saying “he doesn’t really mean it”. And the news pundits are like, yup, and don’t fucking rail him about it. It’s a fucking joke.
