If you follow the chess world at all, this is devastating news.

I’ve watched my share of his chess streams and his commentaries - he seemed like a straight up super nice guy with an unbelievable talent at chess.

There’s a certain older GM that has basically been bullying people and making wild accusations about rated players who cheat at the game. He’s had his sites on Danya for a while - I hope none of that had anything to do with this….

RIP Danya

Edit: a word

Nobody dies at 29 easily… RIP

No cause yet?

Tragic, no matter the cause. 😞

I have a bad feeling they’re not going to give a cause. Because. Y’know.

GM Bortnyk, who found him, doesn't know the cause of death yet, so I assume nobody does.

I read through all the Reddit threads, and there's only speculation.

All the videos are gone now, but apparently he had been acting a little strange in his recent live streams. You can find comments about it on Reddit even if the video is gone. In short, he seemed off.

There was also some evidence presented that the bullshit accusations levied against him were, unfortunately, really getting to him.

Still hoping it was all just some tragic accident. We'll probably never know for sure. But it's a huge loss to the community - gone far too young.

It says so much that every single creator had such wonderful things to say about him. We should all strive to be such a positive force in the world.

Danya might not have been the face of chess, but he was definitely well known if you played or watched chess streams. RIP, 29 is too young to go for someone so talented.

I don't normally get affected by celebrity deaths, but this is awful. Danya was one of the most kindhearted people in the chess community. As a commentator he made the game fun, accessible, and very entertaining. He was one of the very few people who both commentated regularly and still played at the highest level. He was a driven competitor, and was always a serious contender to win any speed chess event he was in.

What a huge blow to the chess community. :(

This is really sad, just yesterday at night I saw his last published video, starting another "speedrun" the name of that video hits really hard now.
