I often see tv shows and video creators quickly put together compilations where, for example, a politician repeats the same word or phrase across many different appearances. How are they able to find and organize these clips so efficiently?

Is there a specific tool, database, or workflow used to index and search video/audio by spoken words or ideas I’m curious what this process is called and where something like this is accessed.

EDIT: Transcripts can be searched, which are accessible through various means, but it is time consuming and most people don't have libraries built up that contain the content for quick access.

I'm thinking more about something like The Daily Show, SNL, or any late night TV show. I can't imagine that they're manually doing all this work independently.

On Jan. 6, 2021, 140 police officers were injured defending the U.S. Capitol from a violent mob of Trump supporters. Five years later, many still live with the physical and psychological damage from that day.

NPR Investigations correspondent Tom Dreisbach sat down with two officers who defended the Capitol — Michael Fanone and Daniel Hodges — to watch their police body camera footage from Jan. 6. Both were subjected to some of the most brutal violence of the day, inside a tunnel where police were outnumbered by rioters armed with flagpoles, stun guns, crutches, stolen police shields and chemical sprays.

Fanone, Hodges and other officers say that Trump's mass pardon of Jan. 6 rioters has exacerbated the trauma of that day. Both Fanone and Hodges have received death threats, and been called "crisis actors." But the footage from their body-cams shows the reality of what they experienced.

Both videos come from NPR's Jan. 6 archive, part of a long-term effort to preserve the historical record — a public database tracking every arrest, charge, verdict, and sentence related to the attack. In Dec. 2025, the archive expanded to include police bodycam, surveillance video and other courtroom evidence, making this material available for anyone to examine firsthand.

Issue: When I send DMs, the keyboard always covers the message input box at the bottom of the UI, making it impossible to see what I am typing.

To workaround, I switch to the WebUI for messages (which is worse for its own reasons) or I write my message in a different app and then cut and paste it into the Boost message field.

Federal immigration officers in the Chicago area will be required to wear body cameras, a judge said Thursday after seeing tear gas and other aggressive steps used against protesters.

U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis said she was a “little startled” after seeing TV images of clashes between agents and the public during President Donald Trump’s administration’s immigration crackdown.

“I live in Chicago if folks haven’t noticed,” she said. “And I’m not blind, right?”

Every win matters. It's so important to see sensible judges.

I found an option in the official pixelfed app to disable stories, but the application is still pretty buggy so I prefer to use the web PWA.

Is there a way to disable stories from showing up on my feed on the browser layout?

Some people have the audacity to say that Trump's policies don't lead to misery and death.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat before Congress and declared: “No one has died” because of his government’s decision to gut its foreign aid program. Rubio also insisted: “No children are dying on my watch.”

But the data says and projects otherwise.

A study published in The Lancet journal in June said the U.S. funding cuts could result in more than 14 million deaths, including more than 4.5 million children under age 5, by 2030.

The United States could have been a beacon of hope and a model to look up to. For many years, that was the case for people and immigrants all around the world.

In a matter of months, that has all crumbled to its foundation. It's so hard to watch.

It was on my watchlist for a bit and I finally got to it today. The themes were heavier, especially with Simon's (Jack Quaid) mental health. I couldn't say how accurate his portrayal of paranoid schizophrenia is, but it was more than enough for me to really feel for him.

It's one of the first times I've watched Jeffrey Dean Morgan in something since I stopped watching The Walking Dead (because of his character, actually). In this movie, Deerman is quite a mess of a human, but he makes up for it.

Overall, I enjoyed the film. I really appreciate how they ended it. I wish there was an epilogue so I could know what happens to Simon.

There's so much to detest about the president of the United States, but setting his targets on the pharmaceutical industry might actually turn out to be beneficial for citizens. Maybe.

I'm sure this executive order, like most of his, will be challenged (and rightfully so). His motivation is clearly focused on the US budget rather than benefiting citizens struggling with healthcare costs. However, I wonder if this might actually get the ball rolling with some much much needed reform. One can hope?
