Anything to escape Great Britain

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 32 points 2 months ago (1 children)

He went to Thailand to go BACK to Britain.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 33 points 2 months ago (1 children)

"On two wheels" implies it's a sightseeing trip. Basically seeing the sights between Thailand and home. Probably only to leave again because... y'know.

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Rather than a motorcycle, it's funnier to imagine he made the whole trip on a hoverboard.

[–] Whelks_chance@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Not necessarily escape. More, experimenting out in the world, then run home and decide that the planet is entirely backwards.

[–] MissJinx@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Yes, experience, and bring something back to the museum

The guy on the right is Ben Innes from Aberdeen. He posed for a picture to post on social media next to Seif Eldin shortly after he hijacked a plane in Cyprus whilst wearing what turned out to be a fake suicide belt. Ben didn't know it was fake at the time of course.

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 25 points 2 months ago

Cool, if morbid, photo to have afterwards, though!

[–] Bane_Killgrind@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 2 months ago (2 children)

That's a big smile for not knowing

[–] entropicdrift@lemmy.sdf.org 42 points 2 months ago

I mean if you think it's your last photo, wouldn't you wanna look good

He also said later that it was to try and get a better look at the bomb.

[–] riskable@programming.dev 84 points 2 months ago

Terry Pratchett nailed it in The Color of Magic.

Twoflower was a tourist, the first ever seen on the discworld. Tourist, Rincewind had decided, meant 'idiot'.

Twoflower is the first place my mind went, too.

Love the reference and the image. Do you know the author?

Asking: “ where can I find a pub”

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Wherever you are in the world, there is usually an Irish pub serving Guinness.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 13 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Also according to Hemingway, you can find at least 2 Estonians in every port in the world.

I can’t confirm that, but I can confirm that there are Irish pubs here in Estonia too.

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

As a Finn, even when we have five times your population, I still believe that to be true of Estonians but not of Finns.

Also when you find those two Estonians, you can purchase cartons of cigarettes and bottles of Viru Valge off of them.

You know, to have after the visiting the Irish pub.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 months ago (7 children)

Viru Valge? God damnit they're letting out reputation down. Everyone knows you take crates of Vana Tallinn with you on trips so you can use it to bribe people. Or maybe that's just in former soviet republics

Man, I just watched this video last night and it's a crazy watch. The guy was surprisingly calm given the situation (though I'm sure he was freaking the fuck out on the inside.) and it just kept escalating.

Seeing the humanity among the Nepal community was heartwarming as well.

I haven't watched the update videos yet, but I know he's released several more videos recapping the events, the proceeding fallout, and interviewing some of the people he had encountered.

Thank you, great share. Also he has the perfect eyebrows for this, very expressive

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 62 points 2 months ago (3 children)

he's on a global motorcycle tour. generally speaking if you want to see the whole world and not just tourist traps, you're gonna do it by bicycle, motorcycle, or by hiking and taking the bus. the theme of his channel is to show things in the world most people miss because they're taking curated/manicured forays into the world catered to their pre-existing outlooks on other people and places

[–] waigl@lemmy.world 60 points 2 months ago (2 children)

A random political overthrow fits in there quite nicely, actually.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 20 points 2 months ago (5 children)

on some level, with the era he was doing this world tour in, and the specifics of what he was seeking to show the world about how we're all just people and the states that rule us are arbitrary, it was bound to happen eventually

Just one wheel is vastly more difficult

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world 18 points 2 months ago

Three wheels it is then

[–] Squirrelsdrivemenuts@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Edd Pratt actually did that!

[–] kilgore_trout@feddit.it 4 points 2 months ago

Why not.
Go out, do things.

"Bloody hell it's hot down here. And no hotels either! Sauna'a are quite warm though."

[–] kSPvhmTOlwvMd7Y7E@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

Careful, he might accidentally appropriate your cultural items and place them in his museum

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

One of my life long dreams is to document events around the world. It is dangerous to be caught up in the middle of a social unrest, but it would be a mad story to tell in the future if you survived!

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

It’s a great video
