/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

"forward not working? Try reverse!".

And sometimes, when you need to rock back and forth to get going, "modulate the beam!"

Is it like rolling a bit the batteries of the TV remote when it starts to fail?

[–] the_mighty_kracken@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago

Woah, english please! I can't understand all this techno jargon.

[–] doomcanoe@piefed.social 24 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Obviously the current polarity wasn't working, what else can ya do?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

These go to 11.

Shut up and eject the warp core!

He has been good this month...

You reverse the polarity, just briefly, to blow all of the space dust out of the filters and improve your airflow to get you running in a pinch. You might have to do it more than once, and you definitely have to do a proper space dust filter change at the next starbase, but in an emergency, this should get you up and running.

Soo, reversing the polarity is the Starfleet version of blowing into the N64 cartridge?

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago

crawls back into the Jeffries tube

Reverse the polarity of the neutron flow

[–] teft@piefed.social 11 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

He means you other guys. Not me. I know why we reverse the polarity. I just don't want to tell you because it's been classified above the Omega Directive.

[–] OrteilGenou@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

How else can you attract polar bear engineers

[–] Ceruleum@lemmy.wtf 5 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Is this a crossover from Narnia?

I would have assumed Lost.

[–] sundray@lemmus.org 8 points 2 months ago

But what about the tachyon pulse!!

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 8 points 2 months ago

Unplugs the cord, rotates it, plugs it back in.

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 6 points 2 months ago

There are 4 people! /s

[–] jawa22@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 months ago

I keep my polarity in a superposition.

[–] bstix@feddit.dk 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I think it's Picard who doesn't know.

It's such a standard procedure that there's no need for the commanding officer to know the details.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

He wasn't always a commanding officer. Did they not reverse the polarity when he was younger?

[–] usernamefactory@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Things were different back then. They didn’t discover reversing the polarity until the mid 24th century. Before that as long as you kept your dilithium crystallized and your deflector shields up everyone was happy.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Then why did Spock say "Ready to reverse polarity, Mr. Sulu?" in the episode "Who Mourns for Adonais?"

[–] usernamefactory@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Oh, well, you know Vulcans. Always ahead of the curve.

He had a gut feeling it was the right move.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 2 months ago

During Red Alert, the walking attraction for Universal Studios: Fan Fest Nights, the warp core brings to have issues. You see plasma exhaust and the two crewmen in Engineering yell “reverse the polarity”.
