Stick Enthusiasts

A place for enthusiasts of sticks of all shapes and sizes. We all love a good stick! Is it a walking stick? Light Saber? Gun? Looks brown and sticky? You decide!

Feel free to post sticks to rate, sticks that look like things, memes about sticks, long winded rants about the superiority of birch sticks over oak, anything stick related! Natural sticks are preferred, but modification and ornamentation is also fine.

Twig. NEXT!

[โ€“] DasFaultier@sh.itjust.works 43 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Came here to say just that, yes.

[โ€“] actionjbone@sh.itjust.works 31 points 1 year ago

Excuse me, but it is TOTALLY WRONG to put a comma after the word "prove."

[โ€“] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 31 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I disagree. I would classify this as more of a branch than a stick.

[โ€“] pebbles@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 year ago

Yeah unless the sides are cleaned up this is a branch.

I'm sorry, but that is actually a $150 table centerpiece from Pier 1 Imports. It adds a touch of natural feeling to your home decor.

This is a twig. Are twigs sticks? ๐Ÿค”

Apparently not. Twigs are still attached to the tree and are also flexible. Sticks are detached and dry, so they are not flexible.

That means if a branch or twig falls off the tree, it isn't immediately a stick! It has to dry out a bit, and then it's a stick! God damn. We really have words to differentiate anything and everything. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

[โ€“] juja@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Actually, by virtue of it not being attached to the tree anymore after it has fallen, it no longer is a twig even if it hasnโ€™t fully dried up yet. So until it has fully dried, itโ€™s in a state where itโ€™s both twig and stick. A twick if you will.

[โ€“] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

Ceci nโ€™est pas une stick.

[โ€“] kersploosh@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 year ago

The picture needs a banana for scale.

Too thin to be called a stick, it's a fucking stupid branch. DOWNVOTED!

[โ€“] Nougat@fedia.io 4 points 1 year ago

It's a branch because it's not a single strand.

[โ€“] merde@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

A Rorschach stick

[โ€“] Hayduke@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Well now, to the untrained eye it might appear to be an ordinary stick, but there are several factors one must consider.

[โ€“] Steve@startrek.website 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)
