Problem is they're not hand crafted meaningful side quests. They're Bethesda-style radiant quests, endless repetitions of the same thing.

I need environmental storytelling and audio log stories in my daily chores

[–] De_Narm@lemmy.world 25 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Honestly, listening to audio books during chores actually did help me!

[–] camr_on@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

100%. I've been racing through the expanse audio books while cleaning my house all weekend

[–] chocrates@piefed.world 2 points 2 months ago

I love the expanse so much. I have to wait another 3 or so years before I can listen to it again. Although I stopped at Leviathan falls last time so I think can get away with that.

I just listen to Adam Something, which means I just end up learning more about trains. I'm not even a train autist I prefer old cars, but even I can't deny the effectiveness of a well built railline.

Music for me. I could if I could listen to tool all day, and not be bothered with human interaction, I'd have figured out interstellar travel by now and not shared it with anyone just to get the fuck out of the world we're living in. (Not sharing it means no chance of others fucking it up for me.)

Another spreadsheet needs your help. I'll mark it's location on the map.

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

This is going to be my eternal punishment in Hell. Just infinite spreadsheets one after another.

I've been through every inch of this place and learned exactly how it runs and everything in it, and I still can't find the last guy. I've opened every door, grabbed everything not bolted down and explored every inch of this place and yet still one mother fucker evades me? Alright I'm out. I'm never doing this again.

There has to be a primary quest objective that you’re avoiding by doing the side quests.

[–] _cryptagion@anarchist.nexus 18 points 2 months ago

gestures vaguely to everything important

[–] dil@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago

I do this on purpose, give myself stuff to avoid like put off going to the dmv for a week, because that week will be my most productive week in a while, I could just go the first day, but telling myself Ill go next monday somehow puts me in panic mode to complete whatever im doing before that date

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 24 points 2 months ago (3 children)

I'm mostly just annoyed that none of my side quests seem to be unlocking more main story quests and I can't even tell if I'm getting XP or not. :(

[–] Psaldorn@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

Shout-out to cyberpunk for making me sit for 12 minutes after a mission to see how much money or xp I made.

[–] WolfLink@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I’ve unironically considered writing my own to do list app that gives you “XP” as you complete tasks

[–] Anarki_@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 months ago

Habitica exists 🙂

[–] Alteon@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

There are several that have existed for many years.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

I'm definitely not getting extra caps. And the XP is negligible at best.

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 months ago

side quests are generally just chores with weird restrictions or requirements

[–] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Jokes entirely aside, this would be a great name for a to-do list app. Maybe if it were gamified, too.

[–] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 months ago (3 children)

I'm legitimately surprised it doesn't already exist. I wish I had the capacity to do app development.

[–] ink@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago (2 children)

The habitica app might be what you’re looking for. It’s been pretty helpful for my adhd, especially once i’d found a decently active group.

[–] brb@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago

Habitica is a privacy nightmare iirc

[–] GerardsGuitar@retrolemmy.com 3 points 2 months ago

I love habitica

[–] _cryptagion@anarchist.nexus 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

it does already exist, and has for years. in fact, there's at least several that I've seen for android, and there's probably a bunch for iOS as well. just search for "rpg todo list".

[–] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

No, I mean one specifically called Side Quest.

[–] lesnout27@feddit.org 2 points 2 months ago

Nearest thing i saw was an app called real life rpg smth if i remember correctly

[–] Rozz@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure I have seen this style app before

[–] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago

I meant one literally called Side Quest.

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 months ago

Fetch quests suck

[–] GerardsGuitar@retrolemmy.com 4 points 2 months ago

I personally call it my 'list of doom' it makes it sound like a videogame boss ngl

[–] webp@mander.xyz 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

The problem is they are treating the main questline as side content. This is an error of categorization.

[–] lesnout27@feddit.org 2 points 2 months ago

Haha, i did that
