The funniest part is that you signed what the chatbot made for you lol

Why didn't you get the robot to sign it for you buddy? 😂😂

I don’t want to pile on too hard, because hopefully you’ve internalized some of the other criticisms in the comments, but this is actually a great example of why “AI” art makes so many people so angry.

On its face, this is a nice-ish comic strip with a joke that might get a smirk or chuckle in response. The moment you look at the image critically, that all falls apart. And don’t you want people to look at your art critically? Don’t you want people to zoom in and enjoy every part of what you created? Thing is, this isn’t your art. You didn’t create it. You wrote some sentences, and then an algorithm (without permission) used the real, painstakingly created artwork of artists from all over the world and throughout history, to spit out some pixels that look like this. You didn’t pick up a pencil or stylus, you didn’t ink the lines and labor over the facial expression or color pallets. You didn’t build on a lifetime of artistic experience to create something new in a style that you’ve been developing for yourself. And then you signed it to make it seem like you had actually done all that. That may seem okay to you, but it’s deeply insulting to lots of people.

I’m a shitty visual artist. I couldn’t draw to save my life. And that’s totally okay, not everyone is Van Gogh. I find other outlets for my artistic impulses.

My Dad is Dracula (And AI Slop)

The joke is that you signed this hahahaha.

[–] Krauerking@lemy.lol 16 points 16 hours ago

I can't believe they put a signature on this.

I might have chuckled if you had drawn this, even if it looked awful it would still get the idea across.

This is just sad.

We have a standard in our instance where we tag such images with [GenAI], you can do the same

Thanks for info.

Why does the giant USB stick have legs and hands?

[–] syklemil@discuss.tchncs.de 21 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Same reason as the vampire has one hand with four fingers and fingernails, and one hand with three fingers and no nail: LLM slop

[–] Fiivemacs@lemmy.ca 4 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I'd give you the nail issue, but there is most certainly 4 fingers on each hand.

[–] syklemil@discuss.tchncs.de 0 points 11 hours ago

The fourth … appendage on the left hand is being used like a thumb, and doesn't have any indication of knuckle even though it'd be the most bent finger if it was one. I'd say we can see four fingers on the right hand, while the left is in an indeterminate slop state where it's only partially a comic/Disney three-finger hand, with one extra slop appendage that's not clearly either thumb or finger.

Wow this might be the first time I disagree with the anti-AI folks here. The big two arguments I see about using AI is 1) It was generated from stolen art and 2) It takes money out of the hands of real artists.

For 1, Pandora's box is open. It's done. It doesn't make it right, and I'm all for backing lawsuits against companies who did it, but I'm not going to pile onto a person who just had a joke idea and wanted to get it out there. "But he shouldn't use it at all" - yeah, except that gets into 2.

For 2, This was a silly thing that they wanted to make quick. Let's be very real, there was no way they were going to commission an artist to do this for them. In this way I think AI has democratized art a bit more in this sense. No, it's not winning any awards, but I'll admit I've had a lot of ideas to make a joke or meme, and I've felt left out because all I want to do is post it quick but I don't have the ability to draw. I have a lot of other skills, but I can't draw. So yeah, I don't get why this is such a big deal here, no creators lost out on a commission because of this.

Those who went to Art School, I fully believe in your craft and I value it, and I gladly pay for art around my house. This isn't that though, it's a silly comic strip I got a quick 3 second chuckle out of and then could have moved on if it wasn't for the endless comments below that made me want to post this comment. To me, this is a perfectly valid use of AI. Person had a silly joke idea, made a visual for silly joke, put it online.
